Found May 31, 2012 on Diamond Hoggers:
In 2008, the Tampa Bay Rays were the surprise team of the year. Having finished the 2007 season with the worst record in Major League Baseball little was expected of them in 2008. However, during the off-season, the Rays made some changes. Most profoundly they changed their name from the Devil Rays to the Rays. They also changed their uniforms, which can now be found on online stores such as HomeRunMonkey, added some key free agents, and added one great prospect to their roster. Very few fans or baseball insiders predicted much success that season but the team surprised everyone by winning the American League Eastern Division and the American League pennant. Although the Rays won the AL East again in 2010 and made the playoffs in 2011 they have not made it back to the World Series since 2008. Can the 2012 team make it back? The pitching staff is the strongest part of the 2012 team, just as it was in 2008. Led by ace James Shields, who was an important part of the staff in 2008, the ...

Fan loses pants going for foul ball

Welcome to the no pants party my friend! Watch as a Tampa Bay Rays fan’s pants fall off as he bends over to pick up a foul ball off the bat of José Molina. This guy gets an A+ for his souvenir retrieval effort, but an F for his decision not to wear a belt to the ballpark. Thanks for the unnecessary wardrobe malfunction kind sir. Tampa Bay Rays fan’s pants fall down after...

Price makes most of Rays' early runs

David Price made the most of Tampa Bay's five-run first inning. Price scattered four hits over 7 1-3 innings, Hideki Matsui homered and the Rays beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-0 on Friday night to move into first place in the AL East. ''The offense made it a lot easier for me going out and getting five runs,'' Price said. ''That takes a lot of pressure...

Hawk Harrelson Goes Nuts During Today’s Rays-Sox Beanball War

Those of you watching today’s Rays-Sox game already knew there was some drama between these two teams on this Wednesday afternoon. Those of you at work don’t know that Hawk Harrelson went absolutely nuts in a verbal assault on umpire Mark Wegner after he ejected pitcher Jose Quintana threw behind Ben Zobrist. Take a listen at Hawk going off the rails. Hurry, MLB will kill this...

Rays Fan Loses His Pants Going For a Ball

The fans in Tampa go so crazy for their hometown Rays (well, those that show up—"Yay! We're 29th in attendance!") that their clothes just spontaneously fall off! Or at least, for one man they did. Going hot after a foul ball during Wednesday's game against the White Sox one particularly burly fan has his pants fall clean off. Ta-da? You know what might...

Price strong, Matsui key in Rays' win over O's

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- David Price scattered three hits over 7 1-3 innings, Hideki Matsui homered and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-0 on Friday night. Price (7-3), who struck out five and walked two, retired his first 13 batters. He got some defensive help when right fielder Matt Joyce made a full-extension, tumbling back-handed catch on J.J. Hardy's...

James Shields: Becoming an Ace

This might seem like a weird time to be writing an article about James Shields experiencing a breakout season, given that his 3.95 ERA this season is over a run higher than the 2.82 mark he posted last year. From a traditional standpoint, if Shields made an ace like leap, it was last season, and this year he’s simply regressing back to something less than ace-worthiness. But...

Tampa Bay Rays fan retrieves foul ball, loses pants

Talk about having an awesome moment completely crapped on, right? Everybody wants to snag a foul ball at a baseball game. It's a moment you'll remember forever and makes for great storytelling material. Then it finally happens, and bam, pants fall off at that exact moment, right in front of the cameras and everybody in attendance (of course that's like 400 people at a...

Rays, Orioles struggling after hot start

ST. PETERSBURG -- The battle for bragging rights in the AL East suddenly doesn't look like all that much to brag about. It was only a week ago that the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays were setting the pace atop the division, picking up steam heading toward their three-game series starting Friday night at Tropicana Field. But right now, the impending showdown for supremacy...

Rays Roundup: Maddon Not Making Excuses

In today's edition of Rays Roundup: Manager Joe Maddon is not using injuries as an excuse for the team's recent lack of winning, outfielder Desmond Jennings is set to begin a rehab assignment on Thursday, Alex Cobb gives the Rays five innings for the second consecutive time and Luke Scott ties Matt Joyce for the team home run lead. All of that and more inside.

Rays 5, Orioles 0

David Price scattered three hits over 7 1-3 innings, Hideki Matsui homered and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-0 on Friday night. Price (7-3), who struck out five and walked two, retired his first 13 batters. He got some defensive help when right fielder Matt Joyce made a full-extension, tumbling back-handed catch on J.J. Hardy's drive to end the fourth. After...

Fan loses shorts grabbing foul ball

Watch closely as a fan in Tampa grabs this foul ball off the bat of Jose Molina Wednesday night.  Warning: don’t watch too closely. I’m not even sure a belt would have solved this wardrobe malfunction. Did his shorts rip? Did he watch the rest of the game in his skivvies? Is this one of the worst things you’ve seen at a baseball game? I have to hand it to the guy.  He went...

Hawk Harrelson loses his mind

During Wednesday’s win over Tampa Bay, White Sox announcer, Hawk Harrelson absolutely lost his mind.  In the bottom of the 4th, Sox pitcher, Jose Quintana, threw at Tampa Bay Right Fielder, Ben Zobrist and was ejected. Hawk has a reputation for being a homer, but this was one of his most memorable rants. With gems like [...]

White Sox's Quintana gets quick thumb for pitch behind Rays' Zobrist

The Chicago White Sox swept a three-game series from the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday with a 4-3 win, the first time the South Siders have scored a three-game sweep at Tropicana Field. However, they also left a lasting impression that might have a carryover when the two teams play again in late September at U.S. Cellular Field. Both White Sox pitcher Jose Quintana and manager Robin...

Video: Hawk Harrelson Explodes After Ejection

The red-hot White Sox took on the Tampa Bay Rays earlier today in the third of a 3-game series in which Chicago had already taken the first two. While you know every team will have a handful of chippy, emotional, and even violent games throughout the course of a regular season, you don’t expect them to come when teams from different divisions who rarely see each other square off...
