Chief among the invites is outfielder Wil Myers, the key return from the deal with Kansas City that sent pitchers James Shields and Wade Davis to the Royals. Also showing up in Port Charlotte on Feb. 15 will be first basemanoutfielder Leslie Anderson, infielder Cole Figueroa, right-handed pitchers Matt Nevarez and Jim Paduch, and lefty relievers Jim Patterson and Neil Schenk. Rays rumors: Tampa Bay targeting a bat

The Tampa Bay Rays recently signed several veterans to just about fill out their roster, including Kyle Farnsworth, Kelly Johnson and Luke Scott. However, Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times notes that the Rays still seem to be in need of a right-handed-hitting player that can man the outfield, first base and designated hitter. There still seems to be a need for a right...

Fantasy Preview: Tampa Bay Rays

2013 Fantasy Preview: Tampa Bay Rays The Rays are always fun. Moving, shaking, using everyone on their roster and then some. You can have the rebuilt Blue Jays, the surprising Orioles, the big-budget Yankees or the (allegedly) bounceback Red Sox. I'll take the Rays in the AL East. They're always in the mix at the end. Offseason moves: Traded SP James Shields and RP Wade...

Rays sign Farnsworth, Johnson to 1-year deals

Reliever Kyle Farnsworth and second baseman-outfielder Kelly Johnson have finalized one-year contracts with the Tampa Bay Rays. The team announced Tuesday that Farnsworth agreed to a base salary of $1.25 million for this season. The 36-year-old right-hander missed much of last season with an elbow strain sustained during spring training and wound up going 1-6 with a 4.00 ERA in...

Rays 3B Evan Longoria recovered from hamstring injury

Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria told reporters, including Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times, that his “leg is ready” and he’s fully recovered from surgery in November on his left hamstring. Longoria’s hamstring injury caused him to miss more than half of the 2012 season, but he said last week that he’s recovered extremely well and will be at Rays’...

Another active offseason, another anticipated summer. Consistency has become the Tampa Bay Rays calling card of late, and calculated moves this winter will make Joe Maddons team one of the most fascinating to study in the American League East. Delmon Young Striking Out Looking

The Tampa Bay Rays used to be the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays used to have a player named Bobby Smith. On August 24, 1999, in a game against the Chicago White Sox started by Jim Parque, Smith finished 0-for-4, striking out looking four times. To get more recent — just last June 14, in a game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Texas Rangers, Justin Upton...

Discount Double Check: Alex Cobb

Well he ain't Ty, that's for sure. *Laugh track begins* Well if he isn't Thai, then what is he? Vietnamese? Micro-Polynesian? And who are we talking about exactly? Did you accidentally delete a sentence? This is a really confusing intro. Sorry, readership, it was an inside joke that somehow escaped like an alien from Ripley's chest. For those who googled...

Profar, Myers lead rookie class

The 2013 rookie class may not have Mike Trout or Bryce Harper, but this is still a strong first-year group with the potential to make an impact this season. Trout's season spoiled what many expected from rookies, but the players below are the types of lottery tickets we all chase on draft day hoping for a big prize. Talent does not always win out because opportunity is king...
