The Rays were being optimistic after Evan Longoria hurt his leg last night, but tonight, the mood is much less upbeat in Tampa Bay.

#Rays say Longoria has partial tear of left hamstring. Out 6-8 weeks.

This is absolutely not what the doctor ordered for the Rays. Longoria had played in all 23 of the Rays games so far, and his .994 OPS led the team. He was also tied for second on the team in homers with four, and led the team with 19 RBI.

Where does Tampa Bay go from here? The team brought up former Tiger Will Rhymes from AAA Durham, while Eliot Johnson started at third for Tampa Bay this evening against the Mariners. Rhymes had just a .641 OPS in 22 games for Durham, and has only played second base in the majors. He's pretty much just bench depth at this point, and I'd expect Johnson to get a majority of the playing time at third with Longoria out. This season, Johnson has only a .560 OPS in 13 games, and will definitely not come close to creating the same sort of value as Longoria.

Out of anyone on the Rays, none is more irreplaceable than Longoria. And the situation that Tampa Bay is in right now....will be to replace Longoria for up to two months.
