Tampa Bay Rays outfielder B.J. Upton may not be ready by Opening Day. Upton underwent surgery on his left shoulder during the offseason to repair a torn labrum. It has been questionable throughout this spring whether Upton would be ready by Opening Day or not. In a minor league spring training game on Saturday, the question was basically answered. Upton was hit in the hand by a pitch during the game. It is not considered to be serious, but it will cause him to miss a couple days and will more than likely push him back enough to cause him to miss the first week of the regular season. Upton could probably play by Opening Day if he had to but the Rays have made it clear that he is not playing until he is completely 100% ready.
