ST. LOUIS -- Carlos Beltran and the Cardinals stunned Clayton Kershaw with a four-run third inning, rookie Michael Wacha was again magnificent on the mound and St. Louis advanced to its second World Series in three seasons by roughing up the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-0 in Game 6 of the NL championship series Friday night. Matt Carpenter sparked St. Louis' big inning with a one-out double on the 11th pitch of his at-bat. Beltran singled him home and the Cardinals quickly removed all the suspense surrounding a team that squandered a 3-1 series lead in the NLCS last fall against San Francisco. Game 1 of the World Series is Wednesday at the winner of the ALCS between the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers. After losing Game 5 in Los Angeles, the Cardinals turned to Wacha once again. The right-hander was even better in outpitching Kershaw for the second time this series.

Cardinals rough up Kershaw, headed to World Series

Clayton Kershaw was long gone. Michael Wacha kept Dodgers hitters down, ignoring the surprisingly big lead and pitching as if the opposing ace was still dealing. The rookie left no doubt in a 9-0 rout Friday night that put the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series for the second time in three years and kicked Los Angeles' high-dollar roster to the curb. ''Yeah, anytime...

Dodgers offering $300 million to extend Clayton Kershaw

getty images The Los Angeles Dodgers are trying to sign pitcher Clayton Kershaw to an extension. Reports have the Dodgers offering the left hander a contract worth $300 million. Kershaw’s next deal is expected to be the largest ever for a pitcher topping the seven-year $175 million that Felix Hernandez and the seven-year $180 million deal that was given to Justin Verlander earlier...

Dodgers Clayton Kershaw offered $300M deal

The Los Angeles Dodgers offered what was essentially a lifetime contract to pitcher Clayton Kershaw earlier this season for a deal in the range of $300 million -- "an A-Rod deal" according to one source with knowledge of the scope and structure. Alex Rodriguez could make $305 million if he achieves all of the incentives in his deal with the Yankees. The two sides were...

Preview: Kershaw, Wacha meet again in Game 6 of NLCS

ST. LOUIS -- For four straight starts, Michael Wacha has been all but untouchable and appeared totally oblivious to the stakes. The St. Louis Cardinals need one more just like that from the pressure-proof rookie to get to the World Series for the second time in three years. Wacha outpitched NL Cy Young front-runner Clayton Kershaw in Game 2 and the Cardinals won 1-0 on an unearned...

Bravo Host Andy Cohen is Torn

Andy Cohen, the host of Bravo's "Watch What Happens Live" has to be torn. On one hand, the St. Louis native (he grew up in nearby Clayton, Missouri) has to be ecstatic to see his Cardinals moving on to the World Series.  On the other, well...on the other hand, Friday night was the last time he'll get to see Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw for a...

A simple NLCS at bat gets complicated

Don Mattingly called it the key of the game. The TBS broadcast team said the same thing. Other news stories called it as such. It was the third inning and Matt Carpenter came to the plate to face Clayton Kershaw with a zero to zero score and one out. To that point, Kershaw had thrown 38 pitches to get the first seven outs. By the time Carpenter hit his double, that count was up...

Comparison of Michael Wacha as a reliever and starter

If the Cardinals are to earn a berth in the World Series Friday night, they’ll have to do so opposing a team starting Clayton Kershaw, presumably baseball’s best starter. Taking the mound for the Cardinals will be a still-mostly-unproven rookie in Michael Wacha, and on the face of it, that puts the Cardinals at a considerable disadvantage. But, a few things are working in their...

Will the Giants Reunite with Carlos Beltran?

Here’s something we don’t need to tell you: the San Francisco Giants need a left fielder before 2014. They need one, and they need one badly. Gregor Blanco won’t cut it (though he makes a great fourth outfielder); Brett Pill won’t cut it (though he makes a solid pinch-hitter); and Juan Perez won’t cut it (though he may in the future). In fact, the only Giant on the roster...

Beltran and the Cardinals Heading To The World Series

The St. Louis Cardinals are going to the World Series after a 9-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers to take the best of seven series, four games to two. It will be the Cardinals’ fourth trip to the Fall Classic in the last ten years. Overall, this is the 19th National League Championship for the Cardinals, the most by any franchise in the National League. Carlos Beltran...

Cardinals Headed to World Series After Destroying Dodgers in Game 6; Michael Wacha Named Series MVP

The St. Louis Cardinals didn't just beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 6 of the NLCS Friday night--they destroyed them! The Cardinals bats beat up on Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw early with four runs in the third. They would get five more in the fifth (final score 9-0), but Kershaw was pulled after getting tagged with three hits and another run in the fifth. ...
