Sox pitchers gave away a sizeable lead, and their batters were completely unable to drive home runners, all culminating in a 10-9 loss in 12 innings at the hands of the Royals.

The Royals jumped out to a 3 run lead after the first, but the Sox more than responded.  They tagged on 4 runs in the 2nd, 3 in the 3rd and 2 more in the 4th; giving them a 9-3 lead.  Those would be the last runs they scored all evening. The Royals, however, got all 6 of those runs back in the 7th.  They did score again, in the 12th.

Cook had a decent game for the Sox, settling down a bit after that first inning.  Miller, Melancon and Breslow?  Not so much.  All six runs scored in the 7th are on the stat sheet of Miller and Melancon, but it was Breslow who gave up a 2-run triple to Moustakas that tied up the game.  Tazawa got the loss, although he pitched fairly well.

Some of the Sox batters did some good things -- they did have 20 hits overall.  Mauro Gomez went 4-6 with a home run and 3 RBIs.  Aviles had a 3-run home run of his own.  Ellsbury had a couple hits batting 3rd -- although, yet again, he was unable to bring Ciraco home from 3rd with 1 out in the 10th, that would have won the game.

At least we got to see Iglesias and Lin.... do horrible things.  Iglesias grounded into a double play in the 11th.  Lin struck out to end the 10th, while poor Ciraco stood helplessly at 3rd.

The issues that have plagued Boston all year did them in yet again.
