...just kidding.  Please come back.  ADRIAN!  ADRIAN! ADRIAAAAN!!

Amidst all the uncertainty surrounding the Gonzalez/Crawford/Beckett trade to the Dodgers the Sox played a pretty solid game of baseball, beating the Royals 4-3.

Lester won his third straight game, and dropped his ERA below 5 in the process.  So, hooray for that.  It was another night where he wasn't in total control, but did enough to get through the Kansas City lineup.  He left the game in the 8th with what I'm assuming is a hamstring injury.  He grabbed the back of his leg after throwing a pretty poor pitch, so it doesn't look good.  At least we don't have to worry about him being out for any time of playoff push.  He ended the night with 6 K's, 4 walks and surrendered the 3 Royals runs.

Once Lester was pulled, Valentine wanted to make sure he didn't leave any reliever in too long so Padilla, Miller and Bailey were each responsible for an out in the 8th.  Bailey stayed in and finished off the 9th, getting his first save as a member of the Boston Red Sox. And if you squint just right as he's on the mound, he almost looks like Papelbon.

Sox batters left a bunch of guys on base, but you probably already guessed that would happen.  The big story of the night - other than, you know, the Sox trading away the best player to come to Boston in quite some time just so they could dump some salaries - was the return of David Ortiz.  Papi didn't disappoint, hitting a two-run single in the first, and following that up with a double in the third.  Ciriaco had himself a two-hit, two RBI night as well, with the two RBI's coming on a nifty little double where he popped a ball well out of the strike zone right over 3rd base.  He then stole third just because he's Pedro Ciriaco and he can seemingly steal bases at will.  Ellsbury also had a two-hit night, but struck out instead of driving Ciriaco home.  Ryan Lavarnway even got a hit!

Regardless of everything else swirling around Fenway right now, winning ballgames is fun.  Let's do that more often.

Sox will call up Iglesias and Lin in preparation of trade

As time passes, the less likely it is that the Sox will not walk away from this deal. In fact, Tom Werner wants this thing done very soon. To fill roster spots that will be available as a result of the trade, the Sox will call up Jose Iglesias, and outfielder, Che-Hsuan Lin. CSNNE: In anticipation of their megadeal with the Dodgers being finalized today, the Red Sox have summoned...

Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett Trade Is Statement of Its Own for Red Sox, No Matter the Results

The sentiment for the 2012 Red Sox (and really, the end-of-2011 Red Sox as well) was never that this team lacked the pieces to win. From proven bats to fiery starters, Boston was loaded with talent, and it had young help waiting to come up, too. The problem throughout the much-maligned last September, creeping into this year and dragging the team down hard as the summer went on,...

Adrian Gonzalez Tweets Thanks to Red Sox Fans as Dodgers Trade Nears Completion

Nick Punto was the first to tip his cap to Boston and its fans. Now Adrian Gonzalez is joining him. Punto and Gonzalez, two pieces of a giant trade that is also sending Josh Beckett and Carl Crawford to the Dodgers, both bid farewell to Boston on Saturday as reports swirled that their trade to the Dodgers had been completed and they were already flying to Los Angeles. Gonzalez tweeted...

Franklin Morales Gets Another Chance to Prove Himself as Starter Against Team That Isn't New York (Video)

As long as Franklin Morales isn't playing the Yankees, he's been solid. It's good news, then, that the Red Sox aren't playing the Yankees on Thursday night. Instead, Morales will face the Angels in the hopes of avoiding a sweep and continuing to build his resume as a starter for the Red Sox. The Halos are still a pretty good team, though, so he will have his work...

Video: Mauro Gomez Hits First Career MLB Home Run

Mauro Gomez has been called up three different times to the Boston Red Sox this year. In his first two stints, he hadn't hit a home run. Well now in his third cup of coffee with the local nine, Gomez can now say that he has hit a home run in the big leagues as he hit a solo homer off Kansas City Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie in the 2nd inning of Saturday night's game....

Gonzalez and Beckett Claimed By L.A.

It now rests in the hands of Red Sox upper management where two of their star players will ultimately end up. According to a report from ESPN ScoreCenter, both first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and pitcher Josh Beckett were claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers, leaving the Sox to either trade them, allow them to leave, or retain them. They are also apparently trying to shop...

Sox Get A Win Amid Trade Talk

While everyone was talking about the blockbuster trade and if and when it was going to happen, the Red Sox took the mound and actually ended their losing streak.  Jon Lester took the mound for the Sox and there was the much needed return of David Ortiz.   Lester took the mound and hoped to build on his last few outings.  Lester was given a couple of runs in the bottom of the...

There are two proposed mega deals on the table right now, things are serious, and a deal could be done today. The first proposed deal would send Josh Beckett and Adrian Gonzalez to the Dodgers. The other is a reported...

Dodgers and Red Sox working on Gonzalez, Beckett, Crawford deal

Recap: Sox hold on to beat Royals, 8-6

The Sox almost blew it again, but they held for an ugly win on this time to set up a chance for a series win.  The Sox jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after getting single runs in the 1st and 2nd, by way of a Ross single and Aviles double respectively. Doubront had a fairly easy time in until the 4th, when he was tagged for 4 runs. Doubront came out for a score-less 5th and that...
