BALTIMORE -- Daniel Nava, Kelly Shoppach and Scott Podsednik hit late homers that helped the Boston Red Sox defeat the Baltimore Orioles, 6-5, Wednesday afternoon in the finale of their three-game series at Camden Yards. Nava, Shoppach and Podsednik batted seventh, eighth, and ninth, respectively, but took care of most of Boston's offense. They combined to drive in four of the six runs while No. 6 hitter Will Middlebrooks knocked in another to give the Red Sox (22-22) their second victory of the series. The power display began in the sixth. Nava broke a 2-2 tie with a solo homer off Baltimore starter Jake Arrieta (2-5). Podsednik followed with a single to end Arrieta's day. Luis Ayala relieved for the Orioles (28-17) and Shoppach greeted him with a two-run homer that gave Boston a 5-2 lead. Baltimore's Nick Johnson hit his second homer of the day in the bottom of the inning, a two-run shot that cut the lead to 5-4. But Podsednik answered with a solo homer off Dar...

Editor's note: The temperature gauge is a Bill James-created statistic that measures how hot or cold hitters are. We will spotlight Red Sox and opposing team temperatures on game days. The Red Sox have been very hot as of late, winning 10 of their past 13 games. The hot streak is largely due to Boston's impressive pitching staff, but the recent string of "Ws" can...
Well, the Phillies are struggling to find any offense whatsoever, but they released outfielder Scott Podsednik who apparently is good enough for someone else's Major League roster.
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine had some good reports for Podsednik in a piece on MLB.com:
"Well, Arnie gave me a good report on his availability, what he can do and what he should do here...
Daniel Nava turned up the heat on Baltimore first. In the sixth inning of Wednesday's 6-5 victory over the Orioles, the Red Sox outfielder clobbered a solo shot, marking the team's first home run of the game. On the ensuing at-bat, Kelly Shoppach took a cue from Nava. The catcher –– who like Nava entered the game with one long ball –– crushed Orioles reliever Luis...
Daniel Nava and Kelly Shoppach hit back-to-back home runs, Daniel Bard (pictured) pitched into the 6th inning, and Scott Podsednik added an insurance run with a solo home run in the 8th to help push the Red Sox to a 6-5 victory and a series win over the 1st place Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. With the win, the Red Sox also climbed back to the .500 mark.Bard allowed a pair of...
In lieu of Cody Ross’ broken foot, journeyman outfielder Scott Podsednik has been called up to the major leagues. This could also be a reaction to Ryan Sweeney’s failed concussion test. Sweeney, who hurt himself on a diving play the other day, could be headed to the 7 day DL along with Ross.
Podsednik, who hasn’t played in the majors since 2010, is hitting .323/.371/.484 in...
Nick Johnson hit two home runs against the Red Sox on Wednesday afternoon, prompting many fans to react with surprise. Not that Johnson is hitting home runs, necessarily, but because that's a name that fans haven't heard in quite some time. While Johnson is only 33, before this season he hadn't played in the big leagues since 2010. In fact, he hadn't hit two homers...
On a list of headlines that I never expected to type, this one ranks pretty high. In fact, when I saw Scott Podsednik make a cameo appearance at the end of Tuesday night’s 4-1 loss, I’d already decide to write about how remarkable it was. And then he goes out and hits a homerun [...]
BALTIMORE-The bottom of the Boston batting order put the Red Sox over the top Wednesday afternoon. Daniel Nava, Kelly Shoppach and Scott Podsednik hit late homers that helped the Boston Red Sox defeat the Baltimore Orioles 6-5 in the finale of their three-game series at Camden Yards. Nava, Shoppach and Podsednik batted seventh, eighth, and ninth, respectively, but took care...
With the rash of injuries in the Red Sox outfield, the Sox continue to dip into the Pawtucket Red Sox outfield. This time, it is veteran Scott Podsednik.
...the Red Sox need some outfield help.
And according to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, it will be coming in the form of Scott Podsednik.
The 36-year-old outfielder is hitting .323 in nine games with Pawtucket this...
The Red Sox have gotten on track since sputtering out of the gate this season. With a three-game series on tap with the Orioles, Boston could cut into the AL East lead with a solid performance in the set. Not every game has gone smoothly, but judging by some Red Sox player tweets this season, everyone seems to be on an even keel. However, with each win, the enthusiasm continues to...
With the top three in the Boston Red Sox lineup going a combined 2-for-15 in yesterday's 6-5 win over the Baltimore Orioles, the production came from the unlikeliest of sources. The 7-8-9 hitters.
Daniel Nava, Scott Podsednik and Kelly Shoppach all went 2-for-3 and all three of them each had a home run. Nava's home run in the 6th put the Red Sox out in front for good...
The Red Sox' depleted outfield just got a little thinner. After an MRI revealed a fracture of the navicular bone in Cody Ross' left foot –– despite the fact earlier X-rays didn't reveal any broken bones –– the Red Sox will place the outfielder on the 15-day disabled list and recall Kevin Youkilis on Tuesday. Ross now becomes the sixth Red Sox outfielder to land...
Bobby Valentine will keep Adrian Gonzalez in right field as the Red Sox take on the Orioles in Baltimore on Wednesday afternoon in their series finale. Kevin Youkilis remains at first base and will bat fifth while Will Middlebrooks will start at third and bat behind him. Newcomer Scott Podsednik gets the nod in centerfield and will bat eighth. Check out the Sox lineup below. Red...
When the Rays travel to Boston, they'll be in full-blown nerd mode. Since taking over Tampa Bay in 2006, manager Joe Maddon has organized road trips with quirky themes. This time around, the Rays will pay homage to FOX reporter Ken Rosenthal by dressing up with bowties in nerd attire. In recent years, the Rays have donned pajamas, cowboy clothing, hockey jerseys and golf garments...
