The Boston Red Sox activated reliever Bobby Jenks from the 15-day disabled list prior to Tuesday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Jenks had been sidelined since June 8 with a muscle strain in his back. He had just returned from the disabled list after missing nearly the entire month of May with a right biceps injury.
The burly 30-year-old has struggled in his first season with Boston, posting a 2-2 record with a 6.57 ERA in 15 appearances.
In a corresponding move, the Red Sox optioned lefthander Tommy Hottovy to Triple-A Pawtucket. The 29-year-old Hottovy allowed three earned runs in four innings since being called up.
