PLAYERS: David Ortiz
TEAMS: Boston Red Sox
On Saturday, The Boston Red Sox will begin selling tickets for the upcoming baseball season. To promote the occasion while also wishing Happy Holidays to their fans, the Red Sox made a commercial featuring Fenway Park decorated in holiday lights. The commercial was inspired by a scene from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and features Wally the Green Monster mascot turning on the lights at Fenway with new manager John Farrell and some "behind-the-scenes" help from slugger David Ortiz. The lights can be seen at Fenway this Friday night when the Red Sox hold the Fenway Park Holiday Fest, featuring the debut of the Winter Light Show. Farrell is probably correct when he says "Things are looking brighter already", because, honestly, things couldn't possible get any worse than they did last season. Red Sox spoof 'Christmas Vacation'

In an effort to, no doubt, remove the bitter taste of 2012 from the collective mouth of Red Sox nation...the team has released a humorous nod to the 1989 holiday classic "Christmas Vacation".Although it does appear to be more than Clark Griswold's 250 strands of light.  I guess it's a good thing they got David Ortiz under contract early. Bobby Valentine, Lance Armstrong Among Sports Figures Named to GQ Magazine’s ‘Least Influential’ List (Photos)

As the calendar turns, many people look back on the year that was and try to make sense of the many highs that accompany the last 365 days. GQ Magazine, in a spoof of the many publications that create “most influential” lists at year’s end, has instead chosen to single out those in the world of pop culture who were the least significant of the last 12 months. Described as “a...

Larry Lucchino Denies Any Trade Talks Regarding Jacoby Ellsbury, Says ‘He’s Our Center Fielder’

Jacoby Ellsbury holds significant trade value. With Ellsbury just a year away from free agency and center field prospect Jackie Bradley Jr. on the rise, there has been speculation that the Red Sox would shop Ellsbury –– the 2011 American League MVP runner up –– this offseason in exchange for a premier pitcher. Speaking on WEEI radio on Thursday, Red Sox president Larry Lucchino...

Red Sox Non-Tender Atchison, Hill, Sweeney

The Boston Red Sox had until midnight on Friday to decide who tender contracts to that were under the team's control. As you might have expected, the Red Sox had some tough decisions to make. GM Ben Cherington decided to not tender contracts to three players. Those three players are Scott Atchison, Rich Hill and Ryan Sweeney. To me, Hill is the most surprising. He...

Cherington says Red Sox have much to prove

The Boston Red Sox have a lot of money to spend at this year's winter meetings. General manager Ben Cherington isn't sure that's the way to go. Cherington said on Saturday that there is more than one way to rebuild after last year's 93-loss season. The Red Sox have a lot of money to spend after shipping Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett and more than...

MLB Rumors: Could Boston Red Sox Sign Nick Swisher, Mike Napoli And Cody Ross?

Anyone who thought that the Boston Red Sox would sit back and relax this offseason without making a splash following their blockbuster salary dump last season clearly has not been paying attention to how this team operates. Yes, the Red Sox dealt away Kevin Youkilis, Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett last season to the Los Angeles Dodgers to clear payroll. But they...

Vote: It’s Christmas at Fenway, Which Free Agent Is at the Top of Your Red Sox Wish List?

Christmas time comes but once a year and the only thing hotter than the chestnuts roasting or hot chocolate is the MLB’s hot stove. The Red Sox are coming off a tough season in 2012 with a last-place finish in the American League East and 93 losses making it a rather forgettable summer. But with the offseason comes new life and a few big-name free agents could change the tune of...

John Farrell, Red Sox Look to Continue Building Roster at Winter Meetings (Video)

After a disastrous 2012, the Red Sox and new manager John Farrell are looking to improve the team’s roster vastly before the start of 2013. With the re-signing of veteran David Ortiz and the acquisition of several new players, the Sox are off to a good start this offseason but still have a long way to go before Opening Day. With holes to fill in the starting rotation, as well...

John Farrell Says He’s Seen Ways Jon Lester, Pitching Staff Can Improve in 2013 (Video)

The Red Sox had a lot of issues during their 2012 campaign, but pitching was definitely one of the most significant. The team has since made several moves to turn its starting pitching woes into success, the biggest being the hire of former pitching coach John Farrell as manager. Farrell, who has a history of working with members of the current staff, presents an opportunity to...

Your Morning Dump...Where Ellsbury will stay the man in center, for now

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. By agreeing yesterday with B.J. Upton on a five-year, $75.25 million contract, the Atlanta Braves won the battle for one of the big names in a market flush with center fielders. Michael Bourn, Angel Pagan...
