Little by little, the Red Sox are filling out their coaching staff. The team announced on Tuesday that they had named Brian Butterfield as the new third base coach. Butterfield, 54, comes along with Red Sox manager John Farrell and bench coach Torey Lovullo from the Blue Jays. A native of Bangor, Maine, Butterfield was one of the longest-tenured members on Toronto's staff. He spent 11 years with the Blue Jays organization, most notably serving as a bench coach for Cito Gaston and third base coach under Farrell. Butterfield also has ties outside the Blue Jays organization. He held a position as the Yankees' first base coach from 1994 to 1995 and went on to become the Diamondbacks' third base and infield coach from 1998 to 2000, both times under Buck Showalter's watch. In addition to his major league experiences, Butterfield managed six seasons in the Yankees' minor league system, compiling a 300-293 record. Butterfield will be replacing Jerry Royster, who was selected by former manager Bobby Valentine prior to the 2012 season. Have a question for Didier Morais?
