Found September 12, 2012 on Sox and Dawgs:
Well how about that. The Boston Red Sox actually won a game. And it was a game that mattered. Well for the New York Yankees it did. They entered Tuesday night's game with a one game lead over the Baltimore Orioles. And when they walked on to their team bus after the game, they were once again tied for first with the O's. And it was all thanks to the birthday boy Jacoby Ellsbury, who was celebrating his 29th birthday. With David Robertson on the mound for the Yanks in the bottom of the 9th, Yankees killer Pedro Ciriaco reached on a one out single. Mike Aviles followed with an infield single setting the stage for Ellsbury's walkoff single that set the real Fenway faithful into a frenzy. It was Ellsbury's 4th hit of the night. Like I said, it's been a while since we've been able to feel this way. And what better time than against the biggest rivals the Red Sox have. It almost wasn't to be though. Jon Lester had an un-Jon Lester like night. He lasted...

Yankees Game 141: Ellsbury walks off

New York Yankees 3 — Boston Red Sox 4   Inabilities to hold leads and missing the “big hits” hurt when Jacoby Ellsbury walks off for a 4-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox.   Hiroki Kuroda generally has pitched with minimal run support and tonight was about the same again. Tonight, Kuroda gave the Yankees 6.1 innings but what he didn’t do was hold the lead he received. He received...

Red Sox Capitalize on 'Birthday Bash' to Send Yankees One Game Closer to Missing Playoffs (Video)

Every game counts the same on the schedule, but they sure feel different in September. This one feels better than the rest have this month, as the Red Sox walked off winners thanks to Jacoby Ellsbury's game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth. Pedro Ciriaco scored and continued his dominance of the Yanks, while Ellsbury rang in his 29th birthday with a big victory. NESN...

Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia Batting for Red Sox' Future After Picking Off Yankees With Timely Hits

When the Red Sox cleared the deck a few weeks ago with their trade buddy Dodgers, everyone knew the final weeks of the season would be spent evaluating talent and trying out young players. But just as important over this stretch is what the veterans of the team -- both the heart and the talent -- do to set the tone for the future. In that regard, the big night that Jacoby Ellsbury...

Jon Lester Defends Josh Beckett, Commends Former Teammate for Having 'A Lot of Guts'

Jon Lester didn't know the Boston Red Sox without Josh Beckett. In a span of just a couple of days in late August, though, the two were separated when Beckett was dealt to the Dodgers. So maybe it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Lester feels the need to defend Beckett after the pitcher was shipped to Los Angeles as part of a blockbuster trade last month. "Josh...

Yankees fall back into tie with 4-3 loss at Boston

Jon Lester gave the New York Yankees ample opportunity to break open the game, and they failed nearly every time. The Yankees couldn't capitalize on Lester's career-high seven walks and fell into a first-place tie atop the AL East when Jacoby Ellsbury hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning that lifted the Boston Red Sox to a 4-3 victory Tuesday night. '...

He was charged with all 3 New...

Red Sox play spoilers, beat Yankees

Excited Red Sox players poured from the dugout. Jacoby Ellsbury had a huge smile after his game-winning single. Pedro Ciriaco jumped for joy after sliding home with the deciding run. And losing pitcher David Robertson walked slowly to the dugout after the New York Yankees missed a chance to keep sole possession of first place in the AL East, losing to Boston 4-3 on Tuesday night...

La Morte Report

Red Sox 4 Yankees 3 Just when you think the Yankees have hit bottom, another trap door opens up and the bullpen let’s another late game rally count for nothing as David Robertson was handed his 7th loss of the season when Jacoby Ellsbury got the game winning walk off hit on his 29th birthday! This has become a disturbing trend for the Yanks lately, they fight back to tie or take...

Recap: Late rally not enough as Yanks top Sox

The Red Sox couldn't make it back-to-back walkoffs as New York topped Boston 5-4. It did get interesting in the 9th, however. Down two, Jarrod Saltalamacchia launched a solo homer off Rafael Soriano. Soriano composed himself for two straight outs, but then made an error to allow Mike Aviles to reach base, bringing up Jacoby Ellsbury for a potential spot as hero on consecutive...
