Right-hander Aaron Cook has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Boston Red Sox, the team announced Sunday. Cook, who was recently called up from Triple-A Pawtucket, sustained a left knee laceration. He was replaced on the roster by left-hander Aaron Miller, who was activated from the 15-day DL. Cook was called up last week after a clause in his minor-league contract required him to be promoted or be allowed to become a free agent May 1. He had a 3-0 record with a 1.89 ERA in Triple A. The 11-year veteran suffered the injury during his start against the Baltimore Orioles, his first with Boston. Miller started the season on the disabled list because of a left hamstring strain. He has pitched in 12 rehabilitation games, striking out 26 batters in 13 innings with a 4.85 ERA.

Aaron Cook receives nasty cut on leg after being spiked (Photos)
We now have a new injury that can rival Amar’e Stoudemire’s utterly gruesome battle wound.
In his Red Sox debut on Saturday, pitcher Aaron Cook received the ugly gash on his leg that you’re seeing above. He suffered the injury when Orioles DH Chris Davis spiked him sliding into home during the second inning. The cut needed 11 stitches to close up, and on Sunday Cook was sent...
Aaron Cook Isn't Worried About Business, Focused on Producing for Red Sox (Video)
Aaron Cook played a bit of waiting game during the early part of the 2012 season. But the 33-year-old right-hander will finally make his debut in Boston on Saturday. Cook was excited to get the call and feels "great" about the opportuntiy he'll have with the Red Sox. NESN's Jenny Dell caught up with Cook before Friday night's showdown with the Orioles during...
Aaron Cook placed on 15-day DL
Aaron Cook‘s stint with the Red Sox is off to a very shaky start. The right-hander lasted just 2.2 innings on in his debut on Saturday, giving up eight hits and six earned runs in a 8-2 loss to Baltimore.
Cook’s early exit was also aided by the fact that he was spiked by an incoming cleat when covering home during a play at the plate, opening up a huge laceration that you can...
Cook, Red Sox Spiked By O's 8-2
Aaron Cook's Red Sox debut probably could not have gone much worse than it did. Cook (pictured) was spiked in the left knee on a play at the plate in the top of the 2nd inning. Based upon what you could see on the NESN television feed, it was hard to believe that Cook didn't come out of the game at that moment. He somehow managed to stay in the game to finish the inning...
Aaron Cook Placed on Disabled List After Suffering Cut That Required 11 Stitches
BOSTON –– Instead of heading to the rotation or bullpen, Aaron Cook is bound for the disabled list. The Red Sox made the announcement on Sunday. A day after Cook suffered a gash on his leg that required 11 stitches on a play at the plate, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine explained the two-fold reasoning behind the move. "One, that we need a little help in the bullpen, obviously...
In the first week of May the Red Sox are ready for Plan B, but what was Plan A?
Oft-injured Aaron Cook will be at Fenway by Saturday. Alfredo Aceves is the team’s closer and Marlon Byrd is the starting centerfielder. This is Plan B for the Red Sox. When 2011 ended, many people believed that the Red Sox had a very talented team that had a terrible run of misfortune causing them to miss the playoffs. Certainly, they couldn’t start as poorly as they did in...
This Is Aaron Cook?
I searched for videos on YouTube of Aaron Cook, the Red Sox starter tonight, and this is literally the only thing I found. It’s Cook giving up a grand slam two years ago to Hideki Matsui, filmed by some over-the-top fan in the upper deck. Call me crazy, but I don’t know if the Red Sox should be jumping through hoops over a guy the Rockies let walk because he wasn’t good enough...
Recap: Orioles dominate Red Sox
I think the word you're looking for here is: 'metaphor'. (Photo by Jim Rogash/Getty Images)
Sox starter Aaron Cook lasted only 2.2 inning and Sox batters never figured out Jason Hammel as the Orioles cruised to an 8-2 victory this afternoon.
God bless Clayton Mortensen and Scott Atchison. After the Sox used 6 arms from the bullpen in yesterday's extra-innings...
Have a weekend, Chris Davis!
Hey, Chris Davis – have a weekend kid!
First, you take out the Red Sox new secret weapon, Aaron Cook. Then you go 0-8 on Sunday – in what could only be described as karma biting you in the ass – only to totally redeem yourself by shutting down the best offense 170 million can buy for two innings. Sure you dropped from 92 to 84 by the time Adrian Gonzalez came to the plate...
Felix Doubront Could End Up in Bullpen, But He's Proven He Has Tools to Be Successful Major League Starter (Video)
There's one less cook in the kitchen now that Aaron Cook has been placed on the disabled list, but he'll be back before long, at which point the Red Sox rotation will become even more crowded. That's because Daisuke Matsuzaka's return is looming as well, meaning Bobby Valentine has some decisions to make when it comes to handing out starts. The Boston Globe's...
Injury updates: Cook, Werth and Tejada
Here's a running list of injury updates around the Major Leagues:
– The Boston Red Sox placed right handed pitcher Aaron Cook on the 15-day Disabled List after receiving 11 stitches in his right knee due to a home plate collision with Orioles' Chris Davis reports Danny Picard of CSNNE.com. “I can't try to have him pitch,” manager Bobby Valentine said. “He'...
What in the World has happened with the Orioles? They win in Boston ... Again
What in the world has been done to the Baltimore Orioles? I mean this in a good way. We are now in the month of May, and the Birds are still flying high thanks to another big win against the Red Sox, this time in dominant fashion. They defeated Boston, 8-2, thanks to a ridiculous seven-run third inning which featured home runs from Adam Jones and Mark Reynolds. They are now 18...
Cinco de Mayo Red Sox Delight
4-8 at Fenway Park is pretty pathetic if you ask me. And no, I haven't been to Historic Fenway Park yet this year so you can't blame me for the Boston Red Sox record at home so far in 2012.
The Red Sox were facing a rookie pitcher again who they had never seen before and for once they did a pretty good job. They were able to get four runs off of Baltimore Orioles starter...
Out of Left Field: Scouting the Scout by Matthew Kory
Those of you who follow baseball via the computer, and unless your secretary printed this piece out for you I assume that description fits everyone reading, have probably encountered MLB.com’s GameDay feature. It’s the ingenious little program that tracks each pitch in real time and allows you to follow the action without actually seeing the action.
I’m not sure exactly...
