Back from suspension, Aceves blows another save

Four nights after throwing a temper tantrum that resulted in a suspension, embattled Boston Red Sox closer Alfredo Aceves imploded on the mound. Having been reinstated to the roster, and with Andrew Bailey unavailable to pitch the ninth inning, Aceves was asked to get a six-out save in a one-run game Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Angels. He breezed through the eighth inning...

The Red Sox pitcher is back with the team on Wednesday, but will not be activated until Thursday, according to multiple reports. Red Sox News & Notes - 8/28

We all know the playoffs are probably a lost cause for our team, the 2012 Boston Red Sox. But that doesn't mean there aren't still baseball games to play. For some of the younger guys, it means getting a chance to prove themselves worthy of a roster spot in 2013 or at least a chance of making the team in 2013. For the free agents to be, it means two things. One, it&...

Daisuke Matsuzaka, Jacoby Ellsbury Have Performances 'Just Like Old Times' Despite New-Look Roster (Video)

If you closed your eyes and tried really hard, you could almost imagine it was like old times for the Sox on Monday. The Red Sox beat the Royals, Daisuke Matsuzka hurled a gem and Jacoby Ellsbury re-found his power stroke to lead the team to a 5-1 win over Kansas City. It was a throwback to the days of yore, when Matsuzaka was a dominant pitcher and Ellsbury was a 30-30 threat. Those...

Red Sox send Ortiz back to DL, season in doubt

The Red Sox activated Daisuke Matsuzaka from the disabled list and started him Monday against the Royals. The Red Sox also placed designated hitter David Ortiz on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to August 25) due to a right Achilles strain, recalled outfielder Ryan Kalish from Triple-A Pawtucket and optioned right-handed pitcher Pedro Beato to Pawtucket. Matsuzaka and...

Ryan Lavarnway Considers Winning a Gold Glove One of His Ultimate Goals (Video)

Ryan Lavarnway's continued development made it easier for the Red Sox to part ways with Kelly Shoppach a few weeks ago. Lavarnway's offense hasn't quite been where he'd like it to be since getting a major league call-up this season, but the 25-year-old knows...
