It looks like this soap opera is finally over. According to a few sources, Jason Varitek and the Red Sox have agreed to a 1 year deal with an option year.
2009 - $5 mil.
2010 - Team/Player Option $5 mil plus $2 mil in games played incentives*
Not a bad deal at all. Even if he hits .230 again, Boston will have a catcher for the next 2 years.
* - If the team picks up his option, Varitek will be paid $5 mil. If not, then he has the option to remain with the team for $3 mil or declare himself a free agent.
