Derek Lowe went 3-0 with a 1.86 ERA in the 2004 postseason for the Red Sox. With only two days rest, he beat the Yankees in Game 7 of the ALCS to put the Red Sox back in the World Series for the first time in 18 years. The Red Sox beat the Cardinals in the World Series that year. And Lowe certainly earned his ring. In April, that ring was stolen from Lowe’s Fort Myers home during a burglary in which Lowe lost roughly $90,000 worth of property. More than the tangible value, I’m guessing (hey, I’ve never won one) that the ring had infinite intrinsic value. Lowe now pitches for the Cleveland Indians. The Indians were in Boston this weekend and Lowe had a Fenway Park homecoming. Before Saturday’s game, the Indians travelling secretary called into the Indians clubhouse to tell Lowe that someone wanted to give him something.
