While it remains unclear if free agent Lance Berkman is going to play in 2013, he would be “quite a nice fit” for the Boston Red Sox, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. Berkman still doesn’t know whether he wants to play, or whether he wants to play for the rebuilding Astros, for whom he played most of his career. The 36-year-old switch-hitter can still hit and actually would be quite a nice fit for the Red Sox if his right knee (two knee surgeries last season) is OK. Cafardo notes that the Red Sox have been seeking a left-handed-hitting first baseman/outfielder, and Berkman would fit the bill as he’s played both positions over the past several seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals. Berkman resurrected his career with the Cardinals in 2011, hitting .301/.412/.547 with 23 doubles and 31 home runs over 488 at-bats. He dealt with injuries for much of his 2012 campaign, but the 36-year-old was effective when healthy, hitting .259/.381/.444 over 81 at-bats. Mike Napoli's Hip Condition Stalling Official Contract With Red Sox

Three weeks ago Mike Napoli agreed to become a member of the Boston Red Sox.  However, that agreement has never been finalized.  As the free agent market continues to be depleted, Napoli and the Red Sox still have not signed a contract, and the club is remaining quiet on the reason.  Of course, that has not eliminated speculation, and it appears the reason Boston and Napoli have...

Ryan Dempster, David Ross Could Be Red Sox’ Best Presents This Holiday Season (Video)

While we all know that, first and foremost, the holiday season is about personal reflection and goodwill towards others, presents are certainly nice, too. Your Morning Dump...where the Hanrahan deal won't be complete for a few days

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. However the Red Sox do not anticipate completing a trade before Christmas, according to a team source. TCN Blog 2012 top story #14: Kozma’s surprising September

It seems especially fitting to post this story on Christmas Day as it is one of persistence and hope. Ever since his selection at 18th overall in the first round of the 2007 draft, shortstop Pete Kozma quietly worked on his game. After almost six years of trying, the 24-year-old may have experienced his 15 minutes of fame with perhaps the most unlikely story of the 2012 St. Louis...

Vote: What Is at the Top of Boston Sports Fans’ Wish List?

Boston sports fans have had a lot of their wishes granted over the course of the past decade. Each of the city’s four major sports teams has captured a championship since 2004, and each has typically been competitive even when coming up short. That doesn’t mean we can’t still be a little greedy, though. While Beantown’s sports enthusiasts don’t really have too much to complain...
