The Red Sox do not have a scheduled Grapefruit League game tonight, but they will be playing an exhibition against null Team Puerto Rico at JetBlue Park. This means that old friend Mike Aviles will get to play against his former teammates, and John Farrell, the manager who he was traded for back in October. Aviles and Will Middlebrooks seemed excited for the showdown:

John Lackey will get his third start of the Spring, and hope to improve on his 12.00 ERA. Puerto Rico's lineup has not been announced, but Lackey could see his stiffest competition this year; Puerto Rico's roster features Aviles, Carlos Beltran, Yadier Molina, Angel Pagan, and Alex Rios.
The Red Sox lineup looks like this:
1. Daniel Nava, RF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. Stephen Drew, SS
4. Mike Napoli, 1B
5. Mike Carp, LF
6. Will Middlebrooks, 3B
7. Ryan Sweeney, DH
8. Ryan Lavarnway, C

Prepare yourself Red Sox Nation John Lackey has had a great start already this spring training. On Tuesday against the Puerto Rico team Lackey threw 3 shutout innings to start the game. He struck out 2 and only gave up 3 hits in his outing. Lackey is performing well seeing as this is his third start back from Tommy John surgery. When asked about the outing he said I felt really good...
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
Ortiz said Sunday when he ran the bases the day before, for only the second time this spring, he felt some stiffness in the tendon. “I got a little worried yesterday,’’ Ortiz said, “and the doctor told...
Ryan Westmoreland has reached the end of his baseball road, adding the latest chapter to one of the saddest stories in recent Red Sox history.
The former Sox prospect announced his retirement Wednesday in an email to several media members, according to the Providence Journal.
“With a clear mind and heart, as well as the unwavering support and friendship of my family, friends, agent...
When Major League Baseball players get nailed for using performance-enhancing drugs, they often have elaborate excuses. But, while their descriptions of why they were using this drug or that may convince some loyal fans, for fellow players — like the Red Sox’ Dustin Pedroia — they just don’t cut it.
“In my opinion, no,” Pedroia said, according to The Boston Globe, when...
Outfielder Ryan Westmoreland, a Rhode Island native once considered the top prospect in the Red Sox organization, announced his retirement from baseball on Wednesday.
Westmoreland, 22, has undergone two brain surgeries in the last three years (his most recent came last July) to correct a cavernous malformation.
In a pretty heartbreaking email sent to sent to several media outlets...
Felix Doubront pitched 1 2-3 scoreless innings in his first outing of spring training, and the Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-1 Monday.
Dubront's debut was delayed by a sore left shoulder. He gave up one hit, walked two and struck out two. He threw 43 pitches.
Rays right-hander Jeremy Hellickson, making his first start and second appearance of the spring, went three...
8 a.m. ET: If you’re not yet on board with the World Baseball Classic, well, it’s time to hop on.
Yes, there are some inherent problems with the tournament’s setup, and, as a certain live blogger recently noted, the rosters aren’t nearly as exciting as they could be. However, so far the Classic has produced some great moments, namely Team Brazil surprising its way into the...
Boston Red Sox pitching prospect Drake Britton was arrested over the weekend for DUI, reckless driving and property damage- all misdemeanors.
At 4:42AM Saturday morning...
And what is it the HQ continually says about things happening after 1AM...???
He was released 8 hours later on $2,250 bond and is due in court on the 18th.
Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald got to...
If you’re like me, you pretty much discounted the “John Lackey will be back in 2013″ scenario.

His tenure with the Red Sox has been nothing short of disastrous. To wit, ERA of 5.26, record of 26-23, led the league in earned runs in 2011 (that’s not good…right). And also like to drink beer in the clubhouse. He didn’t even pitch in 2012...
Bottom line, John Farrell isn't putting up with anyone's crap this season. The Red Sox manager and former pitching coach has the relational capital to make that kind of statement on this team and reverse the culture here in Beantown. Relational capital is a principle Bobby Valentine overlooked all together during his one year tenure in Boston. It's a principle that Tito...
This is isn’t necessarily a sports story more or less but a story of life here and now. It happens way too often, in my town, your town in everytown. If you don’t believe me, read your police blog in your local paper, every day, or every week. This story was in the sport section but again could easliy be in your local section of the newspaper. I took this striaght from the sports...
Tom Borland, the MVP of the 1955 College World Series who later briefly pitched for the Boston Red Sox, has died. He was 80.
