The Red Sox have designated October 2nd as “Thanks, Mike Night”. It will be a chance for Red Sox Nation to honor the contributions of Mike Lowell, who says he will retire from baseball after the season. Lowell has played 13 years in the Major Leagues and was named the World Series MVP with the Sox in 2007. He’s had his ups, and most recently downs here in Boston, but this is a fitting way for Lowell to exit the game… Let’s face it, Lowell has been treated more like dirt than a dirt dog throughout the year. The team was on the brink of dealing him to Texas before the season, and during it he rotted on the bench without a defined role. His outright release wouldn’t have shocked anyone. It was an emotional move when the Red Sox signed Lowell to a 3-year deal after their 2007 championship season.
