Cincinnati Reds President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Walt Jocketty announced on Saturday the acquisition of RHP Todd Redmond from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for INF Paul Janish.
"Redmond will provide us with starting pitching depth in the minor leagues," Jocketty said of the 6-3, 215-pounder. "It's also a great opportunity for Paul to get back to the Major Leagues."
At Class AAA Gwinnett this season, Redmond, 27, is 6-6 with a 3.58 ERA and 1 shutout in 18 appearances, all starts. In 199 career minor league appearances, including 193 starts, he is 69-56 with a 3.57 ERA, 4 complete games and 3 shutouts.
The right-hander was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 39th round of the 2004 MLB Draft. He's played in the Braves organization since the beginning of the 2008 season. Redmond will be assigned to Class AAA Louisville.
