Found July 15, 2012 on Redlegs Review:
Cincinnati Reds President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Walt Jocketty announced on Saturday the acquisition of RHP Todd Redmond from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for INF Paul Janish. "Redmond will provide us with starting pitching depth in the minor leagues," Jocketty said of the 6-3, 215-pounder. "It's also a great opportunity for Paul to get back to the Major Leagues." At Class AAA Gwinnett this season, Redmond, 27, is 6-6 with a 3.58 ERA and 1 shutout in 18 appearances, all starts. In 199 career minor league appearances, including 193 starts, he is 69-56 with a 3.57 ERA, 4 complete games and 3 shutouts. Dusty Baker's future uncertain, despite winning

CINCINNATI For a lame duck, Dusty Baker doesnt waddle when he walks and in fact he walks like a man and talks like a man.His contract expires after this year and despite having his team in first place most of the season, the Cincinnati Reds manager hasnt heard the first peep from the front office about a contract extension.Im getting tired of getting asked that question everywhere...

Game 88: Reds 4, Cardinals 2

The brooms were out as the Reds completed the sweep of the Cardinals last night on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball (Presented by Taco Bell). Johnny Cueto would have taken the mound, but was suffering from a blister. How he got a blister over the All-Star Break, I don’t know, but it wasn’t too big a deal since everyone else was rested. Homer Bailey took his place and totally rocked...

Rolen a true pro for surging Reds

This isnt like 2006, when former Cardinals manager Tony La Russa benched third baseman Scott Rolen twice during the playoffs. Back then, Rolen was not happy. He had given himself to the team physically during the regular season, playing 142 games with an ailing shoulder. He then proved his point to La Russa after starting the postseason 1 for 11, batting .351 with a .955 OPS over...

Reds GM Jocketty not optimistic about making major acquisitions

The Cincinnati Reds hope to be buyers at July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, but general manager Walt Jocketty knows it's going to be tough to get deals done. Cincinnati would like to add a leadoff man, a cleanup hitter and bench help. "I'm not sure of any of it is possible," Jocketty said, "but that's what we're trying to do." With so many...

Bullpen fails Cards over weekend

The Cardinals' three-game sweep by the Reds at Cincinnati had some familiar themes. A former Cardinal beat them. After left fielder Ryan Ludwick hit a 10th-inning homer to win Saturday's game for the Reds, 3-2, third baseman Scott Rolen delivered a two-run, two-out bases-loaded single to win Sunday night for Cincinnati, 4-2. The bullpen failed. In each of the three losses...

Ben Sheets, Changeup Artist?

Like many teams across Major League Baseball this season, the Atlanta Braves’ starting rotation got bitten by the injury bug. The ace of their rotation, right-hander Brandon Beachy, underwent Tommy John surgery — as did prized prospect Arodys Vizcaino. Both will not return before the end of the season. The pitching depth that Atlanta had accumulated was supposed to help weather...

Braves purchase Sheets' contract

The Atlanta Braves purchased the contract of starting pitcher Ben Sheets and optioned Randall Delgado to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday. Sheets, a former Milwaukee ace, pitched his first game in the majors since he played his only season for Oakland in 2010. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Delgado will be recalled Saturday to start one of the Braves' doubleheader games at Washington...

Braves sweep Mets, give Sheets a win in his return to mound

ATLANTA -- Freddie Freeman hit a three-run home run to cap a six-run fifth inning and the Atlanta Braves beat the New York Mets 6-1 on Sunday, sweeping the three-game series from their division rivals. The Braves made a winner of Ben Sheets (1-0), who took the mound almost exactly two years from the date of his last major-league start, July 19, 2010. Sheets allowed two hits, both...

Early runs help Braves open second half with win

ATLANTA -- The power at Turner Field went out with a bang with one strike on New York Mets catcher Josh Thole in the second inning Friday. That should have been a bad omen for the Mets, already down 2-0 to the Braves, but New York made a game of it before the Braves clamped down for a 7-5 win. "We were able to hold on," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. After spotting...

Giants-Braves Preview

The Atlanta Braves received a solid pitching performance from an unexpected source in their most recent contest to help extend their winning streak to a season-best seven games. Jair Jurrjens' personal hot stretch also has been impressive given his earlier struggles. The right-hander looks to remain unbeaten since being recalled from the minors when surging Atlanta hosts former...

What You Need to Know: Monday, July 16 by Daniel Rathman

The Weekend Takeaway The Braves came into the All-Star break having won four games in a row, with Brian McCann trending upward and the Mets—just half a game behind Atlanta—coming to town for a three-game set at Turner Field. Pitching depth was the team’s primary concern. After delivering the pregame speech in the National League clubhouse and watching his senior circuit...
