At 66-42, the Cincinnati Reds own the best record in all of Major League Baseball. So naturally, they landed in the top spot in ESPN's latest batch of MLB Power Rankings released on Monday. They occupied the no. 4 slot in last week's rankings.
Dusty Baker's Redlegs have been on a tear since the first week of July. Entering play on Monday night, the team had won 15 of its last 17 games and 22 of 26 overall. That included an MLB-best 10-game winning streak from July 19-29 and a 19-4 mark since the All-Star Break. To give the top spot in the poll to anyone else but the Reds would be a crime.
Finishing just behind Cincy in second was the NL East-leading washington Nationals (65-43) followed by the New York Yankees (63-44), Texas Rangers (63-44) and Atlanta Braves (62-46) to round out the top five.
Here's how the rest of the NL Central fared:
#6 Pittsburgh Pirates (61-46) (--)
#10 St. Louis Cardinals (59-49) (+2)
#22 Milwaukee Brewers (48-59) (+2)
#28 C...
