Reds can overcome temporary loss of Votto

CINCINNATI There are no placards hanging in the Cincinnati Reds clubhouse that say, "Keep a stiff upper lip," but there are, indeed, more stiff upper lips these days than on the Queen's Guard at Buckingham Palace. It is all due to the loss of All-Star first baseman Joey Votto for three weeks after he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday. The team, of course...

Pitcher Redmond to take Votto’s roster spot

Of all the people you might have thought would take Joey Votto’s roster spot while he’s on the DL with that arthroscopic knee surgery, I bet you didn’t consider a right-handed pitcher. We realize that there are bigger things than sports, and the personal health of baseball players is important no matter who they play for. Cincinnati Reds hurting without Joey Votto

As soon as the news broke a friend of mine, a lifelong Cincinnati Reds fan, texted me an ominous statement; “It’s time to find out what the Reds are made of.” With superstar Joey Votto recently announcing he needed knee surgery, and would be out for a month, that statement couldn’t be truer. Votto is in the midst of another MVP level season and his loss could be a huge blow...

Votto breaks out of slump with pair of hits

Joey Votto came out of a rare slump with a 2-for-3 night Sunday in the Reds' 4-2 victory over St. Louis. He went into Sunday's game with one hit in his last 13 at-bats. He was 6-for-28 (.214) since returning from the knee injury that had him out for three games. He even went hitless for two games in a row for the third time this year. Reds manager Dusty Baker doesn'...
