Chris Heisey belted a career-high three homers and drove in five runs as the Cincinnati Reds salvaged the nightcap of their doubleheader on Wednesday with a 10-2 home triumph over the New York Yankees.
Heisey had never hit two homers in a game - let alone three. He became the 27th member of the Reds to go deep three times in a contest.
The 26-year-old outfielder opened the scoring with a solo blast in the first inning and added a two-run shot in the fifth. After he beat a throw to second base to allow Scott Rolen to score in the seventh inning, Heisey capped the scoring with a two-run shot in the eighth.
Heisey is now batting .273 with eight homers and 28 RBIs this season.
