One of baseball's traditional home openers will have an innovative twist next season. The Cincinnati Reds will host the Los Angeles Angels on April 1, becoming the first teams to start their seasons with an interleague matchup. The Reds, the first professional team, celebrate opening day with a parade and have opened all but four seasons at home. Major League Baseball announced its 2013 preliminary schedule Wednesday, with several format changes caused by the shift of the Houston Astros to the American League. A National League franchise for its first 51 seasons, the Astros start AL play on April 2 when they host cross-state rival Texas.

Mike Trout goes all out, robs Yoenis Cespedes

Dear Mike Trout, Please stop making tremendous defensive plays. You're destroying everyone with your bat, and your defense is just as impeccable. Yoenis Cespedes is having a damn fine rookie year, and you just had to go ahead and rob him of a hit on Tuesday night in Anaheim, in addition to blowing him out of the water in the AL Rookie of the Year race. XOXO, The American...

Blaze get routed by Nuts, still lead playoff series 2-1

Monday's Reds game went 14 innings and lasted over five hours. Though their game took about half the time, the Blaze players probably felt like their game was just as long as they got whooped by the Nuts 12-1 in the third game of the best-of-five series. Modesto was in survival mode and did have the advantage of throwing Major League pitcher Jorge De La Rosa on the mound...

Reds 2B: Pirate made racist remarks

Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips has accused an unidentified Pittsburgh Pirates player of making racist comments towards him during a game Monday.

Mike Trout, Great Young Talent…MVP? HELL NO

If you listen really close you can be reminded for the thousandth time that Mike Trout just turned 21 and gosh darn it, he’s only a rookie. Listen Mike Trout has had a great year. I’ll even go so far as to give him a semi-historical one. Because of that season at such a young age in his first year he is the slam-dunk, no doubt about it, put a bow on it Rookie of the Year for...

The Dean Has Arrived - Dean Chance

By Rob Goldman - Historical Writer  Dean Chance didn’t want to be embarrassed. He knew some of the players invited back for the 50th anniversary first ball ceremony at Angels Stadium had been bouncing their pitches to the plate and he wasn’t about to do the same.He figured the reason the honorees were coming up short were the bulky jackets the Angels had...

Weaver, Angels shutout red-hot A's

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Jered Weaver pitched two-hit ball over seven innings, Torii Hunter homered and added an RBI single in a six-run seventh, and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Oakland Athletics 6-0 on Thursday to avoid a four-game sweep. The Reds dodge some extra-inning bullets and won a fourteen-inning thriller by a score of 3-2 over the Pirates last night at Great American Ball Park. Ryan Ludwick ended the game with a walk-off infield single. It was the fourth consecutive game that manager Dusty Baker gave the start in center field to Chris Heisey over the slumping Drew Stubbs. Heisey homered and his now hitting .287.

Brandon Phillips accuses Pirates of racism

This came to my attention this morning after reading a piece on Getting Blanked by Dustin Parkes, where he noted that Brandon Phillips of the Reds accused a mystery Pirate of racism during Monday's game between the two teams. After the game, Phillips tweeted this out: #RealTalk... Not really surprised by what I heard come outta another player's mouth tonite but...

Reds 2, Pirates 1

Homer Bailey pitched seven solid innings and the Cincinnati Reds came up with just enough offense to squeeze out a 2-1 win over Pittsburgh on Wednesday night for a three-game sweep of the Pirates. The Reds (87-57) scored both of their runs on outs while moving 30 games over .500 for the first time since they were 96-66 on Oct. 3, 1999. They widened their lead in the NL Central over...

2012 MLB Postseason Preview: 5 Reasons Why the Cincinnati Reds Could Sneak Up as World Series Champions

If my life depended on picking the 2012 World Series winner I’d be dead yesterday. I seriously have no clue which team looks like the front-runner to win the World Series. Baseball is usually good in that respect – there’s never really ever a clear cut team like the Miami Heat, etc. So as I was perusing the league this weekend, I did a double take at the Cincinnati Reds. The...
