With the only thing left to achieve in the regular season being the #1 seed, the Reds (94-62) looked to claim a series victory over the Brewers (80-76) in an afternoon affair, which also happened to be the last regular season home game of 2012. The recently, very reliable Mat Latos toed the rubber for Cincinnati while being opposed by rookie right-hander Wily Peralta from Milwaukee. Both pitchers were strong as the offenses stalled for both teams, with the only early breakthrough coming on a Carlos Gomez solo home run off Latos. Latos pitched well enough to earn the victory, but received zero run support in the effort.
