In today’s Chicago Sun-Times, Gordon Wittenmyer speculates that Terry Francona and Theo Epstein could reunite as manager and general manager of the Chicago Cubs. While those close to him believe he won’t leave, the Cubs job is the only other GM job that’s said to intrigue him. In the same article, one “rival executive” of the Cubs described Friedman as the “best choice” for the Cubs and Epstein as the “safe choice.” Wittenmyer adds that his sources are saying that the Cubs have not attempted to contact Friedman yet. This seems to contradict a (...)Read the rest of Report: Cubs GM Job Intrigues Andrew Friedman (51 words) © The Professor for Rays Index, 2011. | Permalink | No comment

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Chicago Owner Tom Rickets Fox Business Network Interview

Watch the latest video at video.foxbusiness.com Recently Tom Rickets sat down with the FOX Business Network to talk about the future of the Cubs and the possibility of Theo Epstein leading the team in the future. It seems clear to me that Rickets has a strong interest in Theo and with the news that the Cubs have asked the Red Sox to allow Theo to interview with them that Theo...

He's just what Cubs need

You don't need "major-league sources" to know the Cubs have interest in Boston Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein. Of course they do. They'd be foolish not to have interest in Epstein. Getting Epstein to Chicago will take some doing. First, he's under Red Sox control through next season. Epstein must first decide he wants to leave the team, and Boston ownership...

The Other Tito Francona

By now, every fan of the game knows about Terry Francona’s departure from the Red Sox. But do fans outside of Red Sox Nation know much about his father, who was a pretty fair ballplayer in his day? The younger Francona, whose given name is Terry Jon Francona, is often referred to as “Tito.” That’s because his father played under the same name, and that sometimes can be...

Your Morning Dump...where Henry's silence isn't surprising.

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. The longer Red Sox principal owner John Henry waits to express his thoughts about manager Terry Francona’s exit, as well as the potential of general manager Theo Epstein’s departure, the more...

Terry Francona 'Proud' of Relationship With Theo Epstein, Has No Immediate Plans to Manage in 2012

The end of the Terry Francona era in Boston has been somewhat puzzling to watch from afar, as the details of the manager's exit are difficult to piece together. The now-former Sox manager was a guest on The Big Show on WEEI on Wednesday, and one of the main points he made clear was that his relationship with general manager Theo Epstein remains strong. "The fact that Theo...

Side Order Of Rehash

As with Terry Francona's last week with the Red Sox, Shank's days as a CNN / SI columnist must also be numbered. This is the second time in as many columns that he has 'sampled' large parts of a Boston Globe column and passed it off as a CNN / SI column. In order to avoid becoming ther next Ron Borges, you'd think he'd insert some boilerplate language at the...

What Is Theo Epstein Worth?

Ever since the Chicago Cubs decided to replace Jim Hendry as their GM, speculation about Theo Epstein has been rampant. Since Boston finished off their September collapse last week, the talk has gotten even louder. Today, Gordon Edes reports that the odds of him leaving may be as high as 50-50, even though he’s under contract to the Red Sox for another year. Bob Nightengale chipped...

Tito Will Be Part of the Fox Broadcast Team for the ALCS

Terry Francona will be the color commentator during the first two games of the ALCS.  He is filling in for Tim McCarver who will be out for a medical issue. Now if only we could get Theo to fill in for Joe Buck.

Francona to Join Buck in Fox Booth for First Two Games of ALCS

Fox Sports today announced that former Red Sox Manager Terry Francona will serve as color analyst with play-by-play man Joe Buck for the first two games of the American League Championship Series (ALCS). Francona will fill-in for Tim McCarver, who will be sidelined due to a minor heart-related procedure he will undergo later this week.

Intriguing days in the Boston Red Sox manager search

In case you missed it, here are the results of our paper's reader poll on the best baseball movie of all-time. We've seen over the past week just how demanding it can be to work in the Boston baseball marketplace. Terry Francona could have managed his team to a third World Series title this year had a few things bounced his way. Instead, he's now out of a job. GM Theo...

If it's Starlin for Theo, who makes that call?

Steve Rosenbloom: As we wait for white smoke out of Fenway Park, one of the swirling Cubs issues is this: Would it be worth trading Starlin Castro for Theo Epstein? And who would be advising Tom Ricketts on that decision?

Flotsam and JetsamMiscellaneous thoughts and observations.I think we should thank Fox and Friends. The show seems to serve as a weeding out process of the sane versus ******* insane. They could even rename the show Thoughtful Political Commentary or Moonbat Crazy and I would be fine. At the very least let's hope that MNF will finally get rid of the Hank Williams Jr. song. I mean...
