A person familiar with the situation says the Chicago Cubs were interviewing Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Dave Martinez for their manager's job.
The person spoke Thursday on the condition of anonymity because of the confidential nature of the search.
The Cubs are looking for a manager to help develop their young players, a big reason they cited for firing Dale Sveum. He was 127-197 over two seasons.
Martinez, who played for the Cubs in the 1980s, has spent the past six seasons as the Rays' bench coach. He could be a good fit with Chicago's management because Tampa Bay relies heavily on statistical analysis.
The Cubs have also met with San Diego bench coach Rick Renteria along with former major league managers Manny Acta and A.J. Hinch.

Lots of Cubs got some action in Arizona today. The best day was Kris Bryant who hit 2 home runs and now has 4 on the season in the Arizona Fall League.

With all but four major league teams still participating in the postseason and most major and minor league ballparks shuttered until Spring Training, it would be easy to overlook offseason minor league baseball leagues commencing around the globe, starting last week with the Arizona Fall League (AFL), which is considered between AA and AAA caliber. Eight prospects in the Cubs...
Once again, the Tampa Bay Rays have a starting pitcher at the top of his game with two years remaining on his contract, and once again, the trade rumors are flying. This offseason, David Price could be moving on, following in the footsteps of James Shields and Matt Garza, whom the necessarily frugal Rays had to trade away at the peak of their value for a haul of prospects. Below...

5 Outs will re-air tonight at 10:30 PM CDT due to overwhelming demand.
Last night, on the exact 10th anniversary of the 2003 Chicago Cubs season-ending defeat to the Florida Marlins in Game 7 of the NLCS, Comcast SportsNet will air a documentary about that memorable season highlighted by the Steve Bartman game. It’s entitled 5 Outs and has a running time of 90 minutes.
A very interesting option just hit the waiver wire (or is about to). The Cubs would be crazy not to put a claim in on Alex Castellanos.
Alex (who is not related to actual prospect Nick) Castellanos is exactly the type of guy the Cubs should be trying to get to fill the bottom of the 40-man. Like Mat Gamel, he is a former prospect (well, sort of, in Alex's case) who just never...
They haven't put any shovels in the ground to begin the Wrigley Field renovation project this offseason and they aren't likely to. No new building permits have been applied for by the Cubs from the city so the Wrigley Field you enter next April will look substantially like the one you left last month.
That doesn't mean things aren't happening. There have been some...

If you read Baseball Prospectus, you probably know who Jason "Professor" Parks is. Parks had a chat yesterday that was very interesting for Cubs fans, and the most interesting question would be this one:
BTH524 (Pennsylvania): Where do you project the top 2013 draft picks (Kris Bryant, Mark Appel, etc.) to be slotted in your top prospect list? With the understanding that...
