Mayor David Ortiz — it has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? While New York City elected Red Sox fan Bill de Blasio as mayor of the Big Apple, Boston nearly one-upped NYC (once again) by electing an actual Red Sox player. According to WGBH via Deadspin, Ortiz received the most write-in votes in the city’s mayoral election earlier this week. David Ortiz Wins Silver Slugger Award At DH

David Ortiz was named the Silver Slugger at DH during an awards show on MLB Network last night. Ortiz hit .306 with 30 HRs and 130 RBIs—despite missing substantial time in April. The 2013 World Series MVP was the only Red Sox player honored with the award. The bat-maker Louisville Slugger sponsors the award each year.
