PLAYERS: Derek Jeter
TEAMS: New York Yankees
Derek Jeter news hasn’t been very inspiring for the past several months. The last time anything created a stir was his press conference to announce that he didn’t know when he would return to playing this year. Some thought he was going to retire, but no way was Jeter going to allow himself to walk away from the game with a boot on. According to Mark Feisand of the New York Daily News, Jeter is still working his way back to the field, and was just cleared to begin running and baseball related activities. Jeter was examined today by Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, NC. Jeter was given clearance to progress into baseball activities & running. — Mark Feinsand (@FeinsandNYDN) June 13, 2013 This still doesn’t change the indefinite timetable Jeter said he was still out for a month ago. The New York Yankees are trying to temper excitement for a return to the lineup: Good news from Charlotte: Jeter examined by Dr. Anderson; injury healing & gave clearance to progress into baseball activities & running — Yankees PR Dept. (@YankeesPR) June 13, 2013 See, the ankle is healing, not healed. Until it is healed, the Yanks will have to deal [...]

Hughes Walks The Ballpark: Teams Walk Away?

In April I decided, for various reasons, that this year should be Joba Chamberlain's last in pinstripes. Chamberlain's performance in Oakland last night only reinforced this belief. Until now, I have not addressed the obvious fact that Phil Hughes should tag along when Chamberlain leaves the Yankees. After last night, however, it is obvious that the two should hop a plane...

Jeter cleared to resume drinking

TAMPA _ Doctors yesterday cleared Yankee captain Derek Jeter to begin absorbing copious amounts of alcohol, after he watched 18 innings of a meandering, stagnant offense provided by former Redsocks, Indians and Blue Jays - who may still be working for those teams."He's not only ready to drink, he needs to drink," said physician Dr. Robert Anderson. "Imagine going...

Yankees: Do you believe this 2013 team is doomed? Stats point to yes

Watching the New York Yankees lose a brutal 18-inning game, 3-2 to Oakland last night made my eyes bleed. Yankees Robinson Cano frustrated. (Image from NY Daily News) Not only did the Yankees lose to the A’s with Mariano Rivera on the bump, they got swept in the series. It was painful, sad and scary all at the same time for me, as a Yankees fan to swallow. The issue is not secret...

Vernon Wells Throws Out Moss At Home To Extend Game

www.nbcnewyork.com Extra innings again?  Its becoming a regular ordeal now, but I’m not just talking one or two more innings.  Lately we have seen games go beyond 15 innings.  In fact last week some fans witnessed teams playing a 2 for 1 (18innings).  It’s insane that a baseball game last three hours; but what about situations when it reaches five hour!  Hmmm, why aren...

NEED THREE OUTS, NOT TWO

A's catcher thinks inning is over after collision

The Yankees and Athletics had already put up zeroes since the third inning and with one out in the bottom of the 15th of a 2-2 game between the Yanks and A's, Coco Crisp blooped the ball out to left filed. Brandon Moss represented the winning run on second base and raced home after the ball landed just in front of Vernon Wells. Wells, running in hard, played it off one hop and...

As part of his farewell tour, Mariano Rivera has been meeting team employees in each stadium he visits this year. On Wednesday, he delivered pizza to a longtime Oakland office services coordinator Julie Vasconcellos. Rivera walked into Vasconcellos' office carrying a pizza box Wednesday night and brought the A's employee to tears as he thanked her for 25 years of hard...

In an amazing game with tons of twists and turns, the tallest player in major league baseball delivered the death blow to the oldest player in major league baseball.  The Oakland Athletics 6’8″ 1B Nate Freiman delivered the deciding bases loaded single on (wait for it) a broken bat against 43-year-old Mariano Rivera to walk off the Athletics 3-2.  The Athletics swept the Yankees...
