CBSSports.com insider Jon Heyman reports that the Dodgers have claimed Cliff Lee on waivers from the Phillies, and the two teams now have three days to complete a trade.
According to Heyman, a trade is unlikely to come to fruition. Heyman writes: “The Phillies and Dodgers will talk, but the Phillies people have suggested to others they don’t see a trade for Lee as very likely. If a trade can’t be worked out, the Phillies would then pull back Lee and he wouldn’t be traded this season. If a player is put on waivers a second time, he can’t be pulled back.”
The Dodgers also claimed pitcher Joe Blanton from the Phillies, and Heyman believes that a trade will be worked out to send Blanton west.
Los Angeles opens play on Friday with a record of 56-50, just a half game behind the NL West leading San Francisco Giants.
