Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports that the Indians, Tigers and Mets are among the seven to eight teams that have expressed interest in free agent outfielder Fred Lewis.

The former Giant, who who turns 30 on Thursday, was non-tendered by the Toronto Blue Jays after batting .262/.332/.414 with eight home runs, 36 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 2010. The attraction to F-dot-Lew is probably as a bench player, where he could certainly add value.

I doubt the Giants are one of the teams interested. Lewis' tenure in San Francisco was rocky, to say the least. After showing lots of promise as a rookie in 2007 (Baseball America once called him the best all-around athlete in the Giants' system), he fell out of favor with management and many Giants fans as well. He was traded to the Blue Jays on April 15 for $75,000 in cash. After the trade, Lewis went on a tirade against his haters, calling them out on his Facebook page.

  • As a Jay fan, I loved Fred Lewis. But I have to say that if you go on social websites and start wanking about employers past or present you are asking for trouble. Hey, there isn't a person out there who doesn't have an issue with their boss about something but geez, either go to the boss directly or STF up ok?
