Found June 07, 2012 on Waiting For Next Year:
In what is becoming something of a recurring theme lately for the Cleveland Indians, physically fit-challenged OF Grady Sizemore, who is currently rehabbing his injured knees and back, has hit a setback in his bid to return to the Tribe. Jordan Bastian tweeted the news from trainer Lonnie Soloff:
Acta & Soloff (trainer) note that Sizemore (back/knees) has slowed down in his rehab. Backed off some running activities last couple weeks.
According to Bastian, Soloff did add that he was still confident Sizemore would contribute in 2012, but he declined to set any kind of definitive time table. It would have been foolish for the Indians to count on much production from Sizemore, who just hasn’t been able to stay healthy over the last several years. But evidently they did just that when they decided to give Sizemore a contract to return to the team. Now both sides must continue to preach patience while keeping fingers crossed that some version of a productive Sizemore can eventually get back on the diamond. Keith Law: Indians’ Draft “Started Somewhat Poorly”

In what’s becoming something of standard analysis of the Indians’ Rule 4 draft, Keith Law chimed in on Cleveland’s haul (Insider Required): This started somewhat poorly with the overdraft of Tyler Naquin (1), a plus runner who should hit (albeit without power) but does have to prove he can play centerfield. -snip- But Cleveland rolled the dice on more ceiling with their next...

Is Michael Brantley Figuring It Out?

I have been admittedly bullish on Michael Brantley since the Indians acquired him from the Brewers in 2008.  I like guys who don’t make outs, and throughout his minor league career, Brantley’s on base percentage was a remarkable .388.  I love batters who walk more than they strike out, and Brantley certainly did that in the minors (292 BBs and 218 Ks).  I adore players who...

Indians get back into the fast lane on the road

In the first series of their three-city trip, the Indians did something they were unable to do during their last homestand. They won a series. Despite a 7-5 loss to Detroit on Thursday, the Indians won the first two games of the series. They are 5-1 vs. Detroit this year. In their most recent homestand, the Indians lost three-game series to Kansas City and Minnesota. That made their...

MLB Draft: Indians Select Tom Hamilton’s Son in 35th Round

The Cleveland Indians selected infielder Nick Hamilton, the son of long-time Indians broadcaster Tom Hamilton, in the 35th round of today’s portion of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. Hamilton, 22, is a red-shirt junior at Kent State University in Kent, OH.  On the 2012 season, the 6-foot-1-inch, 190-pound Hamilton batted .364 (59-162) with 12 doubles, 2 triples, one home run...

Indians 9 Tigers 6: Homers, The Mafia, And Bad Tiger Defense

Every time I think I have a read on this team, they go out and surprise me. I wrote on Sunday that I felt the Indians were about to head into a big time trouble area. But the one thing I’ve learned about a Manny Acta managed team, they seem to respond well to adversity. They are also getting healthier. The same cannot be said for the Detroit Tigers. Last night the Indians welcomed...

Indians' Jimenez enjoys rare road success

There was nothing to suggest the Indians were going to get the performance they received from Ubaldo Jimenez on Tuesday night. Cleveland was happy to see it however, as Jimenez pitched into the seventh inning, allowing one run as the Indians beat the Detroit Tigers 4-2 at Comerica Park. Jimenez, who has been a disappointment this season, came into the game facing one of his least...

Johnny Damon robs Prince Fielder of HR

With a sub-mendoza line batting average and a .528 OPS in 100 at bats this season, Johnny Damon has not provided much help to the Cleveland Indians. Although he has struggled producing runs at the plate, he did an excellent job saving a run with his glove by robbing Prince Fielder of a home run in the second inning of Wednesday’s game against the Tigers. Fielder hit an opposite...

Indians 9, Tigers 6

Michael Brantley hit a three-run homer after a Detroit error kept a first-inning rally going, and Johnny Damon added a two-run single and an impressive catch in left field to help the Cleveland Indians to a 9-6 victory over the Tigers on Wednesday night. Casey Kotchman hit a two-run shot for the Indians, who improved to 5-0 against Detroit this season. Miguel Cabrera and Don Kelly...

Cardinals drop series opener to Indians

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Josh Tomlin scattered eight hits over seven innings, Johnny Damon hit a two-run homer and the Cleveland Indians beat St. Louis 6-2 Friday night to send the Cardinals to their seventh loss in 10 games. Tomlin (3-3) pitched shutout ball into the seventh, when he allowed a two-run single to pinch-hitter Matt Adams. He threw just 76 pitches, improving to 4-0 in interleague...

6/7 Game Recap: Indians 5 - Tigers 7

Player of the Game Asdrubal Cabrera takes home today's Player of the Game with a score of 3.81. Cabrera had a 2 RBI double along with a run scored after he walked earlier in the game. Asdrubal also had another great defensive play from short as he continues to show off the leather in Detroit. It is just his third award on the season. Derek Lowe's score of -5.89 was his...

DETROIT (AP) -- Michael Brantley hit a three-run homer after a Detroit error kept a first-inning rally going, and Johnny Damon added a two-run single and an impressive catch in left field to help the Cleveland Indians to a 9-6 victory over the Tigers on Wednesday night. Indians 4 Tigers 2: It’s A Ubaldo Sighting!

OK, how many of you had this one? The Indians traveled to Detroit to play the Tigers, a city in which they had lost 23 of their last 26 games. Starting for the Tigers was rookie left-hander Drew Smyly, a guy they had never faced. The Indians entered 4-12 and ranked dead last in the AL in batting average and on-base percentage against left-handed starters. Taking the mound for the...
