Found December 09, 2012 on NESN.com:
The Indians may have eliminated themselves from the Kevin Youkilis race with their latest signing. Mark Reynolds agreed to a one-year contract with Cleveland worth $6 million, plus another $1.5 million in incentives, according to Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com. Reynolds will likely play first base for the Indians, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, though they’re moving forward with Lonnie Chisenhall at third base, which means Youkilis will not be rejoining Terry Francona. Reynolds hit 23 home runs with 69 RBIs in Baltimore in 2012, while batting .221 with a .763 OPS. Last season was Reynolds’ first as a full-time first baseman. Even though Youk may not be going to the Indians, that doesn’t make his signing with the Yankees a foregone conclusion, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Youkilis has also received interest from the Dodgers and Mariners.

Tribe Adds Reynolds, But Can’t Stop Here

The Indians left baseball’s Winter Meetings in Nashville last week empty handed, but they were about as active as any team there. Many were disappointed by the Tribe’s closing abilities, but one thing you can say – they were far from dormant. For so many years, the Winter Meetings meant little to the apathetic fan base. Mark Shapiro and Chris Antonetti were there, essentially...

If Youkilis rejects us... what then?

The Gammonites claim Cleveland's signing of Mark Reynolds Sunday likely removes them from the Youktucky Derby, but I dunno. If we had signed Reynolds, it would have taken us out of the race. It would crush our Prime Directive of Yankee Austerity. I'm not sure the Indians feel the same pinch, and the idea of Reynolds in the batting order might make Youk more likely to sign...
