Fourteen-time All-Star catcher Ivan Rodriguez will announce his retirement Monday at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported, citing sources.
Rodriguez, the 1999 American League MVP, reportedly made the decision after failing to get a decent playing opportunity this season.
The 40-year-old chose Texas as the location for his announcement because he spent the majority of his career with the Rangers, playing for the team from 1991-2002.
He made 10 All-Star appearances while with the Rangers and also won 10 of his 13 Gold Gloves while with the team.
In 1999, his best season, he was .332 with 35 home runs and 113 RBI, helping the team to its third AL West crown in four years.
Rodriguez joined the Marlins in 2003 and won his first and only World Series ring, before moving on to Detroit, where he played for five seasons.
