Sliding Into Home:
From the NYPost
According to an industry source, free agent outfielder Jorge Soler is expected to agree on a four-year deal before tomorrow.
The Yankees and Cubs have expressed strong interest in the 20-year-old, who some scouts believe is a better player than fellow Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes, 26, who signed with the Athletics.
The Yankees don’t have Nick Swisher’s replacement in the system if he leaves via free agency and Soler would represent a smaller investment than chasing free agent Josh Hamilton.
Buster Olney said yesterday that the Yankees were one of the most aggressive teams in pursuit of the Curban outfielder.
Last week, the Yankees made a splash on the International FA market, agreeing to a $600,000 deal with Dominican pitcher Manolo Reyes
. That deal is pending MLB approval because Reyes had some issues with his paperwork. You can read more about that signing here

EVERYBODY'S DOING IT
Nick Swisher was coerced into covering Carly Rae Jepsen’s song “Call Me Maybe”. Pretty much every sports team has covered this song. This should have stopped when the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders did their rendition of the song which was filled with hot chicks and was done professionally. UNC’s Women’s Lacrosse team did a decent cover with some hot chicks. These need to...

From Chad Jennings:Andy Pettitte had his left hand wrapped after today’s game, but he said he felt fortunate. He was fortunate to get out of the sixth inning, and fortunate to leave with no real concern about making his next start.
“It’s swollen, and as soon as the swelling gets out, it’ll be fine,” Pettitte said. “It swelled up, got me up high on the hand, toward...

Saturday evening in New York was supposed to be about a horse, a dream and sports history. Eighteen miles east of Belmont Park and a short drive over the Throgs Neck Bridge away, it was a 32-year-old who grew up just a few minutes from Pimlico who stole the show instead.
While I'll Have Another didn't race in the 111th Belmont Stakes, the war horse of Saturday evening was...
The Yankees selected right-handed pitcher Taylor Garrison in the seventh round out of Fresno State University. He sat down with us for a Q&A session to talk about being drafted by the Yankees, who he would compare his game to at the big league level, what his strengths are on the mound, and a whole lot more.
The Yankees selected left-handed pitcher Jimmy Reed in the 21st round out of the University of Maryland. He sat down with us for a Q&A session to talk about being drafted by the Yankees, who he would compare his game to at the big league level, if he's looking to sign quickly, and a whole lot more.
After this season, interleague play as we know it probably will cease to exist. The 6-game season series between the Yankees and the Mets should be a thing of the past, and there should be no more large chunks of time spent playing teams in the other league. The Yankees just swept the first 3 games of the 2012 Subway Series and now enter into that large chunk of time playing the...
Jon Niese pitched well, but didn't factor into the decision
The New York Yankees swept the New York Mets on Sunday afternoon by the score of 5-4 as the Yankees walked-off on the Mets in the bottom of the ninth to sweep the opening edition of the 2012 Subway Series, it was their first sweep of the Mets at “Yankee Stadium” (albeit a different building) since 2003.
Three weeks ago, the New York Yankees were at the bottom of the AL East following their worst stretch of the season.
The club now has a chance to move back to the top of the standings.
The Yankees go for a fourth consecutive victory Monday night while the host Atlanta Braves try to start a new surge after their longest winning streak of the season was snapped.
