The New York Mets are preparing to make a long-term offer to keep David Wright in Queens, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal that cited "a baseball official briefed on the team's thinking." Wright, 29, is leading the National League with a .400 batting average and a .489 on-base percentage, and is third in the NL with a 1.080 OPS. The Mets have a $16 million team option on Wright for the 2013 season, but after losing Jose Reyes to the Marlins during free agency last winter, the Mets will be eager to sign Wright to a long-term deal and avoid the necessity of trading him after the 2012 season. According to the Journal report, no decision has been made on the timing of the offer or the size of the contract, as Mets general manager Sandy Alderson is still in the process of assessing Wright's value. However, given that Wright leads the Mets in hits, runs scored, triples, runs batted in, walks, total bases, and stolen bases, his value to the team appear...

Wright Has Looked Like The All Star Third Baseman Of Old

Not even two months into the season, the Mets have played better then many have expected them to. At 19-14, the Mets are now one and a half games behind the first place Washington Nationals. From Nieuwenhuis to Duda, the team has been lead by a young bunch. Though David Wright has had a rough first three seasons at Citi Field, he has seemed to have found the stroke that once made...

The Mets Have A Spark Plug Again

For years, Jose Reyes would be considered the “spark plug” of the Mets; the man to light up the basepaths, and the dugout. Now with Reyes trying to find his spark in Miami, the Mets were supposed to be lacking such a catalyst both on and off the field come 2012. Turns out, the true spark of this franchise was just waiting to catch fire all along. His name: David Wright. In 2012...

After all the speculation about where David Wright could wind up could he actually be staying in the Big Apple? Some Roads Are Smooth, Some Have Bumps, Some Go Off a Cliff

David Wright is hitting .402 ... on May 13th.I'm not sure I need to say any more today. But I'll try. Saturday was an "all cylinders win" for the Mets, which is the best way to respond to a heartbreaking defeat. They got good starting pitching from R.A. Dickey, at least until he was plunked by Ricky Nolasco in the fifth, which was fine because it drove in a run ...
