Found December 21, 2012 on NESN.com:
With A.J. Pierzynski reportedly signing with the Rangers, teams could start to explore the trade market when it comes to catchers. Or perhaps they’ve already dipped their toes. According to CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman, the Red Sox have had some inquiries on Jarrod Saltalamacchia. General manager Ben Cherington obviously hasn’t seen any deals he’s liked, though, and the Sox could opt to enter spring training with three catchers in the mix. Saltalamacchia is coming off a year in which he hit .222 with 25 home runs and 59 RBIs in 121 games. Salty actually jumped out to a hot start, even garnering some All-Star consideration, but he quickly tailed off. Salty hit .308 during a hot May, but he then batted .208, .182, .205 and .180 in June, July, August and September/October, respectively. #redsox had some inquiries on saltalamacchia but it appears they may go to spring w/ 3 catchers (plus napoli, maybe) — Jon Heyman (@JonHeymanCBS) December 20, 2012 Saltalamacchia will have some company be...

CBS: Teams asking Red Sox about Salty

Not a lot of hard facts in there, but this tweet from CBS' Jon Heyman suggests what we've all assumed for a while: Jarrod Saltalamacchia is most likely to be the odd man out in the Boston catching situation. Nonetheless, Heyman doesn't find a trade all that likely. And there are some factors that point toward Heyman being right. There aren't many catchers who hit...

Rangers sign free agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski

A.J. Pierzynski and the Texas Rangers have agree on a one year deal for next season. Pierzynski, 35, spent the last eight seasons with the Chicago White Sox. A physical is scheduled for tomorrow while financial details have not been released according to T.R. Sullivan. Pierzynski would be an upgrade behind the plate for the Rangers. The team figures to pair him with Geovany Soto...

A.J. Pierzynski to Rangers, good fit?

I’ve personally been curious why A.J. Pierzynski hasn’t flown off the shelf this free agent season.  The numbers are there, especially for a catcher (.278, 28 HR, AL Silver Slugger).  128 or more games for 11 straight years.  He’s a consummate catcher in terms of pitching management and working the strike zone for his pitcher.  He’ll even work dropped strike three calls...

AP source: Pierzynski set for 1-yr deal with Texas

A person familiar with the situation says catcher A.J. Pierzynski has passed a physical, clearing the way for a one-year deal with the Texas Rangers. That person spoke on condition of anonymity Friday because the Rangers had not added Pierzynski to their 40-man roster. With the Major League Baseball office closed for Christmas, the deal won't become official until at least next...

Report: Rangers, Pierzynski agree to deal

Free-agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski reportedly has agreed to a one-year contract with the Texas Rangers. The deal hinges on a physical set for Friday, CBSSports.com and MLB.com reported. Terms were not available. Pierzynski is expected to compete for the starting catcher job with Geovany Soto, who was acquired last July from the Chicago Cubs. The 35-year-old Pierzynski has played...

A.J. Pierzynski signing salvages poor winter for Texas Rangers

Prior to the weekend, the only news that we've heard about the Texas Rangers has related to either which players have left, or which marquee free agents they missed out on. But finally, there is some positive news for the Rangers and their fans, as the team agreed to a one-year deal with catcher A.J. Pierzynski. The fact that the Rangers signed anybody is significant by itself...

Rangers Nab A.J. Pierzynski

To date, it hasn’t been the offseason that the Texas Rangers wanted it to be. There’s still plenty of time, and the team still has plenty of talent, but the Rangers have been looking to make a move of significance. Later Thursday, they were able to make one, locking up free-agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski. And more, while Pierzynski is coming off arguably the best season of his...

Texas Rangers sign A.J. Pierzynski away from White Sox

The Chicago White Sox are hoping that Tyler Flowers hits better than .100 next season, because he’s the new full time catcher on the south side. A.J. Pierzynski is off to the Texas Rangers, for a one year deal, pending the physical. His remarkable eight-year run with the White Sox is now over. When Opening Day comes next April, Paul Konerko will be the last remaining player from...

Sources: Texas, catcher agree to deal

The Texas Rangers, after striking out for most of the offseason, finally are on the verge of a significant free-agent score. The team has reached agreement with free-agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski on a one-year contract, according to major-league sources. The deal is pending a physical. Pierzynski, 36, produced career-highs with 27 home runs and an .827 OPS for the Chicago White...

Transaction Analysis: The Signings of E-Jax and Pierzynski

One player was welcomed to Chicago this week when the Cubs signed Edwin Jackson to a four year contract worth $52 million. Another player, A.J. Pierzynski, bid the Windy City adieu leaving the White Sox as a free agent and signing a one year contract with the Rangers. Jackson goes from being an overlooked member of a loaded Nationals rotation in 2012 to being relied on to pitch near...

Yankees miss out, looking like last guests to a party

There is a report that catcher A.J. Pierzynski has agreed Thursday on a one-year deal to join the Texas Rangers.  Still waiting to hear contract details. There has been only one free agent (from another team) that I’ve been adamant about the Yankees going after this winter–this guy. Yet a few weeks ago, Brian Cashman said that the Yankees would not pursue Pierzynski and they...

Yankees Hot Stove: Another nonsensical move

Just as fans start to comprehend that the New York Yankees are all about one-year deals this off-season, the brass throws another curveball that makes no sense. Here is the gist of it: -       Russell Martin signs a 2-year, $17 million deal with the Pirates, as Yankees didn’t even counter the offer as it was one season too many. -       Yankees watch their everyday...

Rangers sign A.J. Pierzynski

The Texas Rangers have added catcher A.J. Pierzynski on a one-year deal, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports. A.J. join Geovanny Soto behind the plate for the Rangers. Soto hit .198 with 11 home runs and 33 RBIs in 99 games for the Rangers and the Cubs. Pierzynski who spent the last 8 season with the White Sox, is coming off his best offensive season in his career. In 520 plate...
