Cincinnati Reds pitcher Aroldis Chapman has been targeted by a robber at his Pittsburgh hotel room.
The star was not present when the crook, posing as a maintenance worker, struck. But a female guest of his was tied up during the raid, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.
Chapman, 24, was sitting in the bullpen at PNC Park watching his teammates battle the Pirates when the drama played out Tuesday night at the Omni William Penn Hotel.
Hotel security was reportedly alerted to the heist at around 10:00pm after guests heard a woman screaming for help. They discovered an unidentified 26-year-old female inside the room tied up with cloth napkins.
Jewelry, clothing, credit cards and a computer had been stolen.
According to the report, the robber gained entry after claiming he was a hotel maintenance worker there to fix the toilet. The man then tied the woman up after she refused demands to hand over items inside the room.
Investigators were reviewing hotel security footage Wednesday in the hopes of gaining a lead on the imposter.
Chapman has been stellar on the mound this season with a 0.00 ERA and 44 strikeouts through 26 innings, despite having his fair share of troubles outside the ballpark.
The hard-throwing lefty, nicknamed the "Cuban Missile," was arrested last week in Ohio for driving on a suspended license after police clocked him going 93mph.
He also was sued for $18 million this month by a Cuban-American man who claimed he was imprisoned on the communist island after Chapman falsely accused him in 2008 of being involved in human trafficking.
Chapman defected from Cuba in 2009 while playing baseball for the Cuban national team in the Netherlands.

We’re not going to say Aroldis Chapman’s new “girlfriend” Claudia Manrique set up his Cuban ass, but there’s a sneaking suspicion that the hotel room robbery the other night was an inside job. Would a 26-year-old chick, who’s in community college, normally be picked up at the Pittsburgh police station by her husband if he found out his wife was cheating on him with a...
We thought that the story surrounding the robbery of Aroldis Chapman’s hotel room was crazy enough, but it just got even crazier.
Now it seems that the woman that has been reported to be Chapman’s girlfriend is actually married. And after being questioned by police for over 10 hours about the incident, the woman’s husband comes and picks her up.

It’s safe to say that the month of May has not been kind to Reds pitcher Aroldis Chapman. Things began to head downhill when he was arrested for driving 93 mph with a suspended license. From there, he was hit with an $18 million lawsuit accusing him of conspiracy to detain and torture the plaintiff. And now comes news that his hotel room in Pittsburgh, where he’s staying for...
While the cat’s away, the mouse will get tied up tight in a hotel room with some napkins (of all things) and robbed?
Uh, yeah. That’s what happened to the girlfriend of Aroldis Chapman while the couple were in Philadelphia during the Cincinnati Reds road trip.
I don’t know where Aroldis was at the time, but his lady should have known better than to answer the...
Either Aroldis Chapman has some bad mojo surrounding him off the field or he's got some secrets.
The reason we say that; apparently during last night's Pittsburgh Pirates/Cincinnati Reds game in Pittsburgh, someone or ones broke into the big Cuban lefthander's room and robbed him.
And it appears police found out...

Something very strange, dark and mysterious is going on surrounding Aroldis Chapman.
It was just over a week ago that I declared him the lynchpin to the Cincinnati Reds 2012 uprising. A night later he gets in trouble for driving his car 101 miles an hour in Grove City. I thought little of it. Earlier this week, Chapman’s ‘girlfriend’ was found at a hotel in Pittsburgh bound...
Pittsburgh police are investigating a late Tuesday robbery of the downtown hotel room of Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Police found a 26-year-old woman tied up in the room. Chapman was not present because the Pirates/Reds game went late following a two-hour rain delay. The Post-Gazette reports that Omni William Penn security...

When Sparky Lyle strode from the bullpen the mound at Yankee Stadium during his days as a premier relief pitches in the mid- to late 1970s, organist Eddie Layton would play "Pomp and Circumstance." That probably wouldn't work as a ballpark song these days, but to hear Dusty Baker tell it, perhaps the traditional graduation accompaniment should be played on the sound...
The month of May treated the Redlegs very kindly. It was a month that saw them not only get over the .500 mark, but it saw them catapult past the Cardinals for first place in the division as well. And you can't do that without some getting some good individual play from your players.
Here are a couple of guys who were pivotal in the positive turnaround this month:
