Veteran third baseman Melvin Mora announced his retirement from Major League Baseball while in his native Venezuela, the Baltimore Sun reported on Friday.
Mora, who played 9 1/2 seasons with the Baltimore Orioles, was given his unconditional release in June from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The 39-year-old Mora was hitting .228 with 16 RBIs in his first season with Arizona.
Mora batted .277 with 171 homers and 754 RBIs during his career with the Colorado Rockies, New York Mets, Orioles and Diamondbacks.
