New York Yankees backup third baseman Eric Chavez may have played his last game.
The New York Post reported Friday that Chavez is seriously considering retirement.
Chavez, who just completed his 14th season in the majors, also had mulled retiring last season while with the Oakland Athletics.
He missed 2 1/2 months this season due to a broken toe and wound up appearing in 90 games, batting .263 with two homers and 26 RBIs.
A chronic back injury had limited the six-time Gold Glove winner to 64 games over three seasons (2008-10) with the Athletics, for whom he played his first 13 seasons.
Chavez, who will turn 34 in December, has a .267 career batting average and drove in more than 100 RBIs four times.
