PLAYERS:
Cliff Lee,
Joe Blanton,
Nolan Ryan,
Jim Bowden

The Los Angeles Dodgers appear to be the team who placed a waiver claim on Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee. Â The Dodgers, of course, also put a claim on Joe Blanton and the two sides worked out a deal. Â But please relax, the waiver claim means nothing.
After July 31, a player must clear waivers to be traded. Â Â Teams have the chance just once to place a player on waivers. Â Players on the waiver wire may be claimed by teams. Â The team who controls' the claimed players' contract has two options: let the player go to the other team, or pull the player back and never place them on waivers again.
So, the Los Angeles Dodgers have money. Â Â They were willing to take on Joe Blanton's salary, so the Phillies were happy to let him go. Â The Dodgers may also have been willing to eat Cliff Lee's money, in the off chance the Phillies were simply looking to dump Lee's contract. Â
There could be a couple reasons the Dodgers did it. Â
First, they want Lee and could afford him i...

Phillies Place Lee on Waivers – Would a Team Claim Him?
Cliff gets put on waivers. (AP)
In what is a routine practice throughout baseball following the trade deadline, players are placed on waivers and can be claimed by another team. Here is how it works, from Twinkietown Blog:
Nearly all players are put on waivers in August.
Not all players on waivers are placed there with the intention of being moved.

Reports: Phillies place Lee on trade waivers
Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Cliff Lee was placed on trade waivers, according to multiple reports, but don't expect to see him changing teams in a straight waiver claim. Since Lee is owed $87.5 million over the next three seasons, he's unlikely to get claimed. Lee, like a lot of major league players this month, was placed on waivers just so his team has the option...
Cliff Lee 'Not Going Anywhere,' According to Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr.
Cliff Lee's name was tossed around before the trade deadline, and it's sticking around in the news after the trade deadline. Amidst reports this week that the Phillies placed Lee on waivers and that the Dodgers subsequently claimed him, there's been speculation as to whether Philadelphia would elect to move the left-hander. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. wouldn...
Cliff Lee Placed on Waivers; Phillies Can Trade Him Come Friday
The Phillies placed lefthanded starter Cliff Lee on waivers today, reports Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.  Lee is expected to clear on Friday, at which point he will be eligible to be traded.  However, this could mean a few things.
First, the Phillies do indeed plan to attempt to trade him. Â Yesterday on 97.5 the Fanatic, Ruben Amaro said he has no desire to move Cliff Lee...
Dodgers claim Phillies' Lee on waivers, deal not likely
The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Cliff Lee on waivers, according to CBS Sports. The teams have 72 hours to work out a trade. Otherwise, the Phillies can pull Lee back. Sources told CBS Sports that a trade is unlikely, however, because of the Phillies' high asking price. Plus, Lee has $95 million left on his contract that runs through 2015...

Report: Dodgers claim Cliff Lee from Waivers
CBSSports.com insider Jon Heyman reports that the Dodgers have claimed Cliff Lee on waivers from the Phillies, and the two teams now have three days to complete a trade.
According to Heyman, a trade is unlikely to come to fruition. Heyman writes: “The Phillies and Dodgers will talk, but the Phillies people have suggested to others they don’t see a trade for Lee as very likelyâ€...
Cliff Lee On Trade Waivers, But Don’t Worry!
Before you throw that big red brick through the window of Ruben Amaro Jr.‘s window, take a minute to understand  the Cliff Lee waiver situation. It is almost completely unlikely that Lee will go anywhere other then a Ginos Steaks.
First, Lee has a no-trade clause that prevents a deal to 21 teams without his consent. So that means no ****** team can pick him up (and besides, why...

Is Ruben Amaro wavering placing Cliff Lee on waivers?
The trading of Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence this week signaled that Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro came to grips with reality that the team needed an overhaul. But is he perhaps showing a little more fear than we'd like to see in today's decision to place starting pitcher Cliff Lee on waivers?

Is Cliff Lee Becoming The Modern Day David Cone?
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Cliff Lee is arguably one of the best pitchers to take the mound over the past decade. He has won a Cy Young award and pitches in two World Series championships with different teams. It may seem strange that a pitcher of Lee’s caliber has been traded so many times, but it is not altogether rare. Not when you think back to the...
No Lee, but Blanton gives LA a steady starter
LOS ANGELES -- Just when it looked like the Dodgers' Ned Colletti and the Phillies' Ruben Amaro were on the fast track to becoming BBF's (Baseball Best Friends), Amaro must have had second thoughts.
Tuesday night the Dodgers received Shane Victorino from the Phils for pitchers Josh Lindblom and Ethan Martin and early Friday afternoon Colletti and Amaro agreed on their...
