Found January 24, 2013 on Fox Sports Wisconsin:
Former Brewers starting pitcher Shaun Marcum has agreed to sign a one-year contract with the New York Mets, according to multiple reports. Marcum, a 31-year-old right-hander, spent the past two seasons with Milwaukee, posting a 20-11 record with a 3.60 ERA in 54 starts. Acquired by the Brewers for top prospect Brett Lawrie on Dec. 6, 2010, Marcum immediately paid dividends in Milwaukee's rotation. He went 13-7 with a 3.54 ERA in 33 starts in 2011, helping lead the Brewers to the playoffs. But his postseason performance is what stained his tenure with the club. Marcum went 0-3 in the NLDS and NLCS, allowing 16 earned runs in 9 23 innings for a 14.90 ERA. Brewers manager Ron Roenicke stuck with Marcum when the club faced elimination in Game 6 of the NLCS, but Marcum lasted just one inning and gave up four runs. He bounced back with a 3.70 ERA for the Brewers in 2012, but a shoulder injury limited him to just 21 starts and seemed to put him out of the Brewers' plans for 2013 wh...

Shaun Marcum signs, Hairston departs, Mets still in running for Bourn

Thursday we learned that the Mets signed Shaun Marcum to a one-year deal and today we learned the terms – one year, $4 million plus up to two million in incentives. Perhaps it’s just a coincidence but FanGraphs lists Marcum’s 2012 season – 124 IP, 3.70 ERA – as being worth $6.2 million dollars. There’s many ways to spin a contract when it’s signed and here’s mine...

Marcum signs with Mets

Photo by Michael BaronIt's being reported that the Mets have signed Shaun Marcum to a one year, not only did this come out of nowhere but with all the Bourne discussion it's barely been noticed.  It was reported earlier this off-season that the Mets were interested in Marcum but never was it characterized that they were front runners or even close. With Marcum the Mets now...

Mets Take a Chance on Shaun Marcum

The New York Mets first significant player acquisition finally happened this week, when they signed former Blue Jays and Brewers starter Shaun Marcum.  Marcum's signing fits a pattern that the Mets have seemingly pioneered in recent winters... bringing in formerly successful but recently injured or struggling pitchers in the hopes of seeing them return to form. When...

A person familiar with the deal tells The Associated Press the New York Mets and free agent right-hander Shaun Marcum have agreed to terms on a one-year contract. The person said Thursday the contract is pending a physical. The person requested anonymity because the deal has not been announced. Several media outlets earlier reported the deal. The 31-year-old Marcum fills an opening...

From Left Field: Mets Finally Sign A Free Agent

With the announcement this morning that the Mets have agreed to sign Shaun Marcum, the offseason drought is officially over. The Mets were the only team in the game to have not signed a Major League free agent before the Marcum deal. Of course, the Mets are going through a rebuilding phase, but the team didn’t even sign a bench player or relief pitcher to a pro deal. What this...

Report: Mets sign Marcum

Free-agent pitcher Shaun Marcum has signed a one-year deal with the New York Mets, according to a CBSSports.com report. The agreement is pending a physical. Marcum, 31, spent 2012 with the Milwaukee Brewers, and went 7-4 with a 3.70 ERA in 124 innings. He was limited to 21 starts because of elbow tightness, forcing him to miss two months. With the Mets, the righty will join a...

Mets Grab Themselves a Cheap Shaun Marcum

We begin with a Shaun Marcum timeline. Marcum debuted in the majors in 2005, and he got progressively better through 2008. He missed all of 2009 due to Tommy John surgery. In 2010, as a Blue Jay, he started on opening day. Following 2010, he was traded to the Brewers for top prospect Brett Lawrie straight up. In 2011, he posted a sub-4 ERA over 33 starts. In 2012, he posted a sub...

Mets Sign RHP Shaun Marcum To One Year Deal

Marcum, 31, went 7-4 with a 3.70 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 109 strikeouts in 124 innings. He made only 21 starts as a lingering elbow issue hampered him a bit. In 2011, Marcum went 13-7 with a 3.54 ERA as the...

Peer Pressure

I guess the Mets figured that if all the cool kids were doing it, they might as well join in all the fun. Now, Shaun Marcum is no outfielder. And he's not even a reliever. So the first major league free agent that the Mets sign (making them the last team to do so this winter) doesn't address their two most significant needs. But in a vacuum, this isn't a bad signing at...
