Here's a switch: An established player is joining the Miami Marlins rather than exiting the team. Free agent outfielder Juan Pierre agreed to a one-year, $1.6 million deal with the Marlins, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported. Multiple media outlets confirmed that the sides came to terms. The Marlins recently agreed to trade five high-profile, high-priced players, including shortstop Jose Reyes, right-hander Josh Johnson and left-hander Mark Buehrle, to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for a package of young players and prospects. Pierre, 35, is coming off a good season with the Philadelphia Phillies. In 130 games, he hit .307 with a .351 on-base percentage, one homer, 25 RBI and 37 stolen bases. He could wind up as the Marlins' left fielder, as Logan Morrison could move to first base next year. Miami's incumbent first baseman, Carlos Lee, is a free agent this winter. Three of Pierre's previous 13 major league seasons were with the Marlins. He helped t...

Tom Koehler’s Pitch For Relief
I live in New York and I experienced Hurricane Sandy albeit at a much lesser degree than many other people in the area. There is a lot of destruction in the Northeast and it will take a long time to rebuild. Every little bit helps and Marlins’ pitcher Tom Koehler is doing his part to help out. Koehler has organized a pair of baseball clinics to take place in December...

Marlins Agreement to Spend Revenue-Sharing Funds on Player Salaries Expired Just Before Mega-Trade
The Marlins and owner Jeffrey Loria were already on baseball’s hot seat, and the veritable fish tank’s water may soon get even hotter.
Back in 2009 and 2010 the Major League Baseball Players Association was very unhappy with the Marlins. In the days of revenue sharing among MLB teams, the Marlins, by all outward appearances, had continued to pocket that money rather than spend...
