The new-look Seattle Mariners lineup with Dustin Ackley leading off and Brendan Ryan batting second is off to a good start. The Mariners won two of three from the Twins over the weekend with this lineup, which came in the wake of left fielder/third baseman Chone Figgins being moved into a utility role. Figgins was hitting .189 as the club's primary leadoff hitter, one reason the club was struggling to score runs. He was hitless in his previous 19 at-bats before manager Eric Wedge took him aside Friday night to inform him of his demotion. In three weekend starts against the Twins, Ackley reached base six times in 12 plate trips, collecting three hits and three walks while scoring four runs. Ryan, who was hitting .149 in the No. 9 slot at the time the move was made, has one hit and one run scored in two starts while dropping down one successful bunt and collecting two sacrifice flies. "Some guys are going in the right direction," Wedge said. &qu...

Seattle Mariners right ship, take series from Twins

The Seattle Mariners started their latest ten game road trip in grand fashion, winning their first four games. They then dropped their last six, including all four games to the Tampa Bay Rays. Hector Noesi throws pitch, gets 2 balls back

Seattle Mariners pitcher Hector Noesi must have thought he was seeing double during Sunday's game against the Minnesota Twins when— after having a pitch land in the dirt— his catcher and the umpire got their signals crossed and each threw a ball back at the surprised Noesi. Jesus Montero loses track of outs, runs off field (Video)

The game of baseball can tend to be a long one and at times, players can lose track of how many outs there are in the game. It happened last night to Mariners catcher Jesus Montero against the Detroit Tigers as he started running off the field after a strike-out of Brandon Inge assuming that it was the final out of the inning. Sadly for Jesus, it wasn't: (Courtesy...
