The Philadelphia Phillies enter a four game weekend series against the Florida Marlins without center fielder Ben Revere, who jammed his right ring finger stealing a base against the Cleveland Indians last night.
According to Phillies MLB.com beat writer Todd Zolecki, Revere had his right ring and middle fingers wrapped before batting
practice. The injury puts John Mayberry Jr. back in center field for tonight's game.
“His finger, that kind of definitely made it easier for me to put Mayberry in there,” Charlie Manuel said.
Revere, who was acquired in the offseason in a trade with the Minnesota Twins, has battled injury problems in the early part of the season. He missed four games recently due to a injured right quadriceps.
Always a great defensive player, Revere has struggled at the plate all season. Although he is among the league leaders in stolen bases with six, he's batting .204 and is third from the bottom in slugging percentage and 12th lowest in on base percentage at .226 and .245, respectively.
Ben Revere is expected back in the starting lineup Friday night.
