Found April 20, 2013 on More Hardball:
PLAYERS: Rick Ankiel
TEAMS: Houston Astros
Rick Ankiel is off to a very unusual start to the 2013 MLB season with the Houston Astros.  In 31 plate appearances, he's struck out 21 times.  That's worse than most pitchers when they bat...and remember he used to be a pitcher.  However, he has connected 10 times and 6 of those times a base hit was the outcome.  Of those 6 hits, 5 have gone for extra bases- 1 double and 4 homeruns.  That's the ultimate hit or miss and all or nothing hitter right there.  His batting average might only be .194, but his .806 OPS is very respectable.

Check out the 320-foot home run that he launched which Astros outfielder Rick Ankiel thought that he had a chance at making a play on. Houston Astros Option Dallas Keuchel, Recall Brett Oberholtzer

MLB News: The Houston Astros have optioned Dallas Keuchel to Triple-A Oklahoma City while also recalling Brett Oberholtzer to take his place on the active roster. Keuchel just got done going 2 2/3 innings in relief the other night throwing 74 pitches. The move to bring Oberholtzer up, another LHP, is likely to just to get a fresh arm in the bullpen. Brett hadn’t done well in the...

Houston Astros Activate Outfielder Fernando Martinez

MLB News: The Houston Astros activated outfielder Fernando Martinez on Sunday. While he should see regular playing time at the corner outfield positions, he isn’t someone the Astros will be relying on as a starter. Holding a .209 career average throughout his career, he could be sent down as quickly as the temperature changes. Fantasy Ramifications: Absolutely none. Make no mistake...

Martinez sprains right knee against Indians

Houston left fielder J.D. Martinez has left Friday night's game against the Indians after spraining his right knee while batting in the fourth inning. Martinez was injured on a check swing. His knee buckled and he fell to the ground in pain. He remained on the ground for a couple of minutes while Astros trainers attended to him. He was then helped to his feet and hobbled with...

Houston Astros Place Outfielder J.D. Martinez On Disabled List

MLB News: The Houston Astros placed J.D. Martinez on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right knee. The initial prognosis is several weeks to a month. Fantasy Ramificastions: Martinez is a low-end outfielder who provides little of anything for fantasy baseball teams. If you are an owner of the left fielder it is safe to assume that you can release him and pick up someone to...

Houston Astros Activate Pitcher Travis Blackley

Anatomy of two really bad starts

Rick Porcello of the Tigers and Philip Humber of the Houston Astros both made starts yesterday for their respective teams. To say that those starts did not go well is like saying that a glacier might move slowly. Between the two of them, they totaled one inning pitched. Combined, they gave up seventeen runs. Now that, folks, is a bad day. Let us start with Rick Porcello. Porcello...

Houston Astros fan catches home run ball in his popcorn, sort of (VIDEO)

via mlb.com As if Houston Astros fans don’t have it bad enough already.  First, they actually have to pay to watch their team who sports a 5-13 record (.278 winning percentage) and now they can’t even eat their popcorn in peace. 2013 MLB Draft: Could the Astros pass on Mark Appel again?

The 2013 MLB Draft is set to begin June 6th and we're going to try and provide at least one or two things per week between now and then. The Astros had the first pick in the 2012 MLB Draft and they again have the top pick. Last year, Mark Appel was rated by some as the top draft prospect. He's rated by nearly everyone as the top draft prospect this year. A year ago the Astros...

Drew Stubbs hits home run that gives Rick Ankiel popcorn shower (Video)

Over the weekend, Cleveland Indians outfielder Drew Stubbs did something that I've never seen happened at a Major League Baseball game. It happened in the fourth inning of play against the Houston Astros as Stubbs homered off of a pitch thrown by Houston's Brett Oberholzer. As the ball was leaving the yard at Minute Maid Park, Astros outfielder Rick Ankiel got a nice...

Second Thoughts Game #15: Indians 2, Astros 3

The Indians lost to the Houston Astros. That pretty much sums it up. The offense continues to struggle with runners on base and in scoring position. Brett Myers gave up two home runs, but still managed to keep the Tribe within striking distance over five innings. The bullpen was once again outstanding pitching four shutout innings. However, it all came back to the offense and lack...
