Just a couple of months ago on February 1st, White Sox General Manager Rick Hahn claimed 1B prospect Lars Anderson off of waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks. But after the team acquired Conor Gillaspie and decided he was the best man for the bench role, they DFA'd Anderson. And about 5 weeks after that (March 29th), he was DFA'd by Toronto, who ultimately shipped him back to our Sox for cash considerations. Don't worry, the 3 brief weeks Anderson was on the White Sox 40-man roster was plenty of time for us to become irrationally excited about the prospect who'd had hope surrounding him fade for a while. Now that we know it's not too likely we'll see Lars at the major league level any time soon, our speculation about the 6'5 25 year-old should be a bit more realistic ... What we still know about Anderson is that he hits from the left side, has a good deal of 'pop,' and can play RF and LF despite being primarily a first baseman. Unfortunately, we don't know much more. Since he hasn't really shown much consistency since 2010 (AAA Pawtucket of the Boston Red Sox), it's hard to tell if this low-risk move will pay dividends. But considering how thin the Sox are when it comes to lefty hitters, having someone with at least a decent amount of potential like Anderson can't hurt. He joins Seth Loman (1B), Jordan Danks (OF), and Jared Mitchell (OF) as the team's primary lefty insurance options in case of an injury at the big league level. And considering Loman is already 27, Anderson joins Andy Wilkins as a noteworthy 1B in the team's minor league system. And no, you're not the only one who thinks of this when you hear "Lars" ...
