The last time we talked about Ricky Romero here, the Blue Jays ace was coming off the heels of a trio of solid starts in August that saw him give up just 4 runs over 23 innings of work, earning victories in all of the outings. That’s pretty damned good, but Romero did one better tonight, throwing the best game of his 2011 season – and probably his career so far – pitching just 5 over the minimum in a complete game shutout of the Oakland Athletics in a 7-0 Jays victory. It was as masterful as we’ve ever seen Ricky Romero on the mound, as this performance was even better than his other complete-game shutout this season, a 4-hitter against the Cardinals that happened back in June. The lefty allowed just 3 hits and a pair of walks over 111 pitches on the night, striking out 6 A’s and generally kept the Oakland offense unable to do anything during the game.
