Cal Ripken Jr. spoke publicly Friday about his mother's kidnapping, which occurred last week.

The Hall of Fame infielder said he does not know why his 74-year-old mother, Vi, was kidnapped at gunpoint from her home outside Baltimore, blindfolded and driven around for nearly 24 hours. She was found unharmed in her car near her home early the next morning, according to ESPN.com.

Ripken said his family and the police are still searching for answers about the kidnapping, which he called a bizarre and unsettling crime.

No suspect has been found.

Ripken thinks the kidnapping may have been planned in advance, but he does not know why his mother was a target.

There was no ransom demand and the elder Ripken had said her abductor did not appear to know that she was the mother of the retired Baltimore Orioles player, according to investigators.

Ripken owns baseball's record with 2,632 consecutive games played.

Police have not said much about the investigation but released a sketch of a suspect and video surveillance footage pulled from a Walmart store.

Ripken told ABC's "Good Morning America" that his mother was doing "pretty well" since her kidnapping, but has been too shaken up to return to her home in Aberdeen, Md. She is staying with other family.

"Mom, by and large, is a tough, strong woman," Ripken said at a news conference inside the B&O Warehouse at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. "She's been able to endure this."

Ripken said he drove around looking for his mother after he was told police had received a report of a car with his mother's tags on it, with a woman tied up in the back seat.

"It was a horrible night," he said.

He said the family reunion the next morning was an emotional one.
