PLAYERS: Jim Tracy
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a front-runner for "Worst Managerial Decision of the Year."  To nobody's surprise, it comes from the mind of Rockies manager Jim Tracy, and boy is it a doozy. According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, the Rockies are going to a four-man rotation and putting a 75-pitch limit on each starter.  The fact that Colorado is adopting a four-man rotation isn't the mind-blowing part, it is the reasoning behind it and the implementation of it. There is no doubt that the Rockies are having serious trouble with their starting pitching which has been miserable this year, even by Coors Field standards.  As such, nobody could really blame them for trying something this drastic.  What we can blame them for is doing this supposedly so they can save their bullpen. Yes, Jim Tracy thinks that the bullpen won't get overworked so much under this new plan by having his starting pitchers exit early every single game.  Due to the climate, p...

Colorado Rockies continue to suffer from terrible management

The Rockies are the only ones who can't see how bad this guy is.The Colorado Rockies made an announcement before Tuesday night's game in Philadelphia. It wasn't the announcement that many were expecting. Most thought that Jeremy Guthrie, the biggest trade mistake Dan O'Dowd has made, would be dealt. Instead, the announcement was that Guthrie was going to the bullpen...

Desperate Rockies go to 4-man Rotation

Rockies Manager Jim Tracy decided to shake things up before Tuesday's game in Philadelphia announcing that the club will be moving forward with an unconventional four man rotation. A puzzling move made purely out of desperation became even more confounding when Tracy explained his thinking.

Manufactured Runs: Does the Rockies' Four-Man Rotation Make Sense? by Colin Wyers

Well here’s something you don’t see every day—the Rockies are going to a four-man rotation. And what’s more, they’re going to put their four starters on a 75-pitch limit. Jim Tracy explained his decision like so: "I felt we had to do something non-conventional," said Tracy of his beleaguered pitching staff that includes a reliever Josh Roenicke who has thrown...

The Rockies Interesting Rotation Experiment

The Rockies rotation has been a disaster this year. As a group, they have a 6.31 ERA, and while their FIP (5.15) and xFIP (4.44) are somewhat better, both marks are still among the worst in the league. The main culprits — the rockies are 29th in walk rate (3.71 BB/9), 29th in home run rate (1.58 HR/9), and 30th in BABIP allowed (.349). Putting guys on base before you give up...

Rockies' four-man rotation will be on a strict 75-pitch limit

As expected, Jeremy Guthrie was pulled from the Colorado Rockies' rotation Tuesday. However, in a pitching move that shows desperate times call for desperate measures, manager Jim Tracy announced the Rockies would go with a four-man rotation and the starters would be on a limit of 75 pitches. The remaining starters are Alex White, Jeff Francis, Christian Friedrich and Josh...
